Kane went back into the forest to hunt more monsters and level up.
In addition, he wanted to test the effectiveness of his skill "Puppeteer." He wanted to evaluate the pros and cons of the skill, as well as determine how long he could keep it active with the amount of mana he currently had. If the mana consumption proved too high, he would only use it once he had more reserves.
After returning to the sector where the fire-threaded snakes and other monsters were, Kane advanced cautiously, not alerting the remaining monsters. After going through the trees and bushes, he spotted two wolves whose fur was ablaze with flames.
'Luckily, there are only two of them... it would be more complicated if it were a pack,' he thought as he prepared to face the wolves.
One of the wolves sensed Kane's presence as it sensed a tree disturbance. Instantly, it lunged towards him with two swift movements, leaping straight for his exposed neck.
"Roar!"
Kane dodged the attack with a graceful leap to the side. The wolf, realizing it had missed, could not stop its momentum in midair and crashed violently into a tree behind Kane.
Crack!
The wolf's fangs struck the trunk violently, cracking the hard bark as the tree shook violently.
In the blink of an eye, the second wolf wasted no time and was already in front of Kane, launching a ferocious attack with its claws.
"Roar!"
Kane rolled to the side, dodging the attack by a hair, and quickly took cover behind another tree.
Crack! Crack!
The tree protecting him shook as the two wolves charged him in fury.
"Whew, these monsters are speedy," Kane exhaled as he glanced at the tree furtively. He saw that the two wolves were now pinned to the rugged bark.
It was the perfect moment to strike back!
Seizing the opportunity, Kane launched at them, splitting their heads in two. Blood began to splatter, staining his face.
Ding!

Kane looked at the two corpses of the igneous-furred wolves. "Time to test the skill..." he muttered, activating his Puppeteer ability. Fine threads, as delicate as spider silk, slithered toward the inert bodies of the wolves. However, they failed to move them an inch.
"Why doesn't it work...?" Kane frowned. "It may not work on dead creatures..."
With a sigh, he decided to go deeper into the forest. In the distance, he spotted a snake with fiery threads. He wanted to try again. With great care, he hid behind a tree, calculating the range of his threads before acting.
Hiding behind a tree, with "Puppeteer" activated, Kane spotted the Fiery Thread Snake about five or six meters away, just within range of his ability.
Activating "Puppeteer," Kane noticed this time that fine threads emerged from the snake, invisible to the human eye. 'So those are the threads of the spirit body...' he thought as he tried to manipulate them, still somewhat clumsily.
After a few seconds, the threads controlled by Kane made contact with the threads of the spiritual body of the fire-threaded snake. He began the control phase over the spiritual body of the creature.
The snake, among the branches of the trees, felt a disturbance in its spiritual body and tried to move, but its movements were slow as if something sticky prevented it from moving freely.
Just as the snake felt losing control of its body, its resting branch broke, causing it to fall to the ground. When it regained control, it was overcome by a deep fear and, trusting its instincts, quickly escaped from the place.
Hiding behind a tree, Kane sighed long after losing control of the fire-threaded snake's spirit body.
He realized two things: First, upon taking initial control of the target's spiritual body threads, the target feels a disturbance in its body and tries to escape control.
Second, the control phase is short but takes ten to thirty seconds to complete. He deduced that the target could still attempt to defend itself and move during this time.
"This confirms that, at least with this level, I can only try to control living people..." muttered Kane after testing his ability. " Besides, I can attack while I start to take control; that will come in handy."
'Could it be that dead creatures don't have spirit bodies?' he mused, remembering his failed attempt with the fiery fur wolves.
"Whew, I've already wasted too much time trying things out. I must move fast and get a trait..." Kane deactivated the ability and, after briefly getting his bearings, headed towards his next destination: the other sector of the forest.
...
Slash, slash-
Slash!
[Level up!]
[Level up!]
[Level up!]
After Kane left a massacre in his wake through much of the forest, he finally reached his destination: a secluded corner of the forest.
"It's just like in the game..." he muttered.
In front of him stood a mausoleum, black as night, with pyramid-like architecture. The obsidian walls absorbed the scarce light from the surroundings, intensifying its mysterious aura. The door was sealed with a strange symbol.
Kane stopped admiring the imposing structure and approached the door. Once in front of it, he observed it, inspecting each engraved symbol. Among them all, one stood out for its complexity and brilliance: a grayish-white disk. The disk's surface was divided into twelve segments, with a black needle, like a clock, in its center.
However, the segments were not evenly distributed on the disk; they were of different sizes, forming a chaotic and unpredictable pattern. This symbol belonged to the ancient Augustus family of the Goetia Empire, a dynasty that had met its end and faded into history.
After examining the symbols, Kane spoke in the ancient Sumerian language, "[Great family of the Goetia Empire, ruled by the Emperor of Calamity, open the gates to the last descendant of the glorious Augustus family!]."
The grayish-white disk symbol glowed for a moment before returning to normal, and the mausoleum door began to open, revealing its dark and mysterious interior.
Whoosh!
[Eyes in the dark are watching you.]
