Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Another Goddaughter

"Arthur, is that your car?" Jennifer Connelly pointed to Arthur's Ford Taurus in the parking lot, which appeared to have been hit by another car.

"Damn," Arthur smacked his forehead and laughed. "That's mine. God must be reminding me it's time for a new car!"

As they approached, they noticed a note with a phone number stuck on it.

Arthur immediately picked up his cell phone and dialed the number. "Parking lot, Ford Taurus. You hit my car. Be here in two minutes to resolve it!"

"Uh, I'll be right there," a woman's voice responded.

"Hurry," Arthur said before hanging up.

He then glanced at the car beside his. "A Lotus Esprit, like the one in Pretty Woman. Sales for these have been going up lately."

It was clear this Lotus had hit his Ford Taurus while parking.

Jennifer Connelly joined him, laughing as she wrapped her arm around him. "The same one driven by Christopher Reeve in Pretty Woman. Lotus's advertising did well. Too bad I auditioned for that movie. The director said I was too young."

Arthur nodded. "Lamborghini and Porsche refused to associate their brands with a film involving a prostitute, so Lotus got lucky."

He then hugged Jennifer Connelly's waist and comforted her. "Don't worry, I'll make sure you get a script. Even if it's just a pretty face, it'll be in a high-grossing film."

After saying that, Arthur kissed Jennifer Connelly on the lips.

"Ahem," a voice interrupted them, and the owner of the Lotus approached, coughing a few times.

"I'll wait for you in the car," Jennifer Connelly said, heading to the car.

The person extended a hand. "Sorry, I hit your car while parking. I'm Gwyneth Paltrow."

"Yeah," Arthur shook her hand, eyeing her curiously.

Gwyneth Paltrow, 18, came from a wealthy family. Her father was a good friend of director Steven Spielberg, who had made her his goddaughter at birth.

"You're Arthur Smith?" Gwyneth Paltrow asked, smiling.

Arthur nodded. "Yes. So?"

"And so?" Gwyneth Paltrow looked at him with admiration. "I'm an actress too, currently filming Spielberg's fantasy movie Hook. I really like your scripts, Sleepless in Seattle and Sleeping with the Enemy. Plus, you're a producer. That's so cool."

"Arthur, I think we could work together in the future. My father, Bruce Paltrow, is a producer, and my mother is Blythe Danner."

Arthur knew of her wealthy background. "Gwyneth Paltrow, right? I meant, how are we solving the car issue?"

Her debut film, directed by Steven Spielberg, starred Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, and Julia Roberts. How did she know him? Arthur knew his own reputation; he was recognized within the producer and director circles, but how did a newcomer like Gwyneth Paltrow notice him?

"How do you want to resolve it?" Gwyneth Paltrow moved closer. "My father told me about you, said you're a genius writer."

"How about $5,000?"

"What $5,000?"

"The repair cost."

"That's $5,000?" Gwyneth Paltrow's eyes widened. "At most, $2,000."

"Deal, $2,000," Arthur agreed immediately, knowing it would actually cost about $500.

"You," Gwyneth Paltrow pointed at Arthur, feeling swindled.

Arthur frowned deliberately. "Does no one keep their word anymore?"

"Fine," Gwyneth Paltrow pulled out a checkbook, wrote a $2,000 check, and handed it to Arthur. "Here."

"Great," Arthur pocketed the check.

"I want to be friends. You can call me anytime. You have my number," Gwyneth Paltrow pointed to the note she had left.

Arthur glanced at Gwyneth Paltrow and waved. "See you. Bye!"

At this point, Gwyneth Paltrow wasn't his type, so he had no intention of contacting her.

"Hmph," Gwyneth Paltrow stomped her foot as Arthur drove away. Arthur Smith was young, handsome, and incredibly talented, easily attracting women.

Driving off, Arthur laughed to Jennifer Connelly. "That woman just now, Gwyneth Paltrow, is another of Steven Spielberg's goddaughters. First Drew Barrymore at the restaurant, now another goddaughter in the parking lot?"

But Spielberg treated them very differently. Drew Barrymore was practically estranged from him.

"Another goddaughter of Spielberg?" Jennifer Connelly remarked at the coincidence.

"Yeah, her debut is in the film Hook, currently being shot," Arthur said, thinking connections were everything.

Spielberg, Hoffman, and Williams waived their fees for Hook but would get 40% of the film's profits.

"Can't help but envy that," Jennifer Connelly remained calm, then touched Arthur's leg. "Gwyneth Paltrow seemed very interested in you!"

Arthur smiled. "Those pampered flowers are hard to deal with."

"Isn't she pretty?" Jennifer Connelly asked, laughing.

"Not as pretty as you," Arthur stroked Jennifer's cheek. "My dear."

"Wait until we get home," Jennifer Connelly whispered. "Focus on driving now."

"No problem."

"You're so bad," Jennifer Connelly laughed, running her fingers through her hair as she unzipped Arthur's pants...

"Whew," some time later, the car stopped in Jennifer Connelly's garage. Arthur leaned back in the driver's seat, his hands on Jennifer's head, breathing heavily.

"Mmm," Jennifer suddenly gripped Arthur's thigh, letting out a muffled moan before lifting her head and taking deep breaths.

Wiping her mouth with a tissue, Jennifer Connelly looked at Arthur. "Satisfied now? We'll see if you can keep up tonight."

Arthur smirked. "We'll find out soon, won't we?"
