Author's POV
The Wangs had retreated, licking their wounds after the failure of the kidnapping attempt. Wang Ming's desperation to remove Huang Yanyan from Wu Haoyu's life had only brought more trouble to her family, drawing the attention of the authorities and the media, as well as deepening the rift between her and her own family. The Wangs were a shadow of their former selves, their influence waning as their attempts to manipulate events slipped through their fingers.
But they weren't giving up — not yet.
At a dimly lit restaurant on the outskirts of the city, Wang Ming sat at a corner table, her gaze fixed on the untouched glass of wine in front of her. Her usually perfect posture was slumped, her fingers tapping restlessly against the tablecloth. Across from her sat Wang Jian, her older brother and the de facto head of the family since their father had stepped back due to the overwhelming public scrutiny.
