Chapter 112: You Are Exceptional

Sarah's POV:

After they sang the birthday song, we clapped happily, and I kept avoiding eye contact with Anthony, despite how much he kept staring at me.

"Mother" Josh hurried to me with a piece of cake and shoved it into my mouth. I stared at Elma, who had a frown, so I crouched and took a bite before smiling at the kid.

"Happy birthday"

Then my gaze moved to Kim; she rolled her eyes and walked inside. When I followed her, "Kim," I called, but she didn't stop.

Finally, she stopped in the kitchen, filled a glass of water, and drank. "Kim"

"What do you want?"

"How have you been?" I asked, and she snorted, "Stop asking like you care."

"Of course, I care."

"And you want me to believe that? I am not Josh," she said, dropping the glass and turning to leave when I held her hand.

"I am sorry. I had to pretend to be your mom, but I had no other choice."
