Chapter 38: Awkward moment

Kaoma hadn't planned to make the boy uncomfortable; the words just slipped from her mouth before she gave them a second thought.

She didn't know how many seconds passed as they simply stared at each other in silence.

When Sydney sniffed a bit, almost like he was trying his best to hold back the tears.

Kaoma said while gently patting Sydney's back with her left hand, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to put you on the spot like that, forget that I said anything please."

"Pardon me miss, it's not like me to fall apart like this but it had been a really trying time for me," Sydney sniffed then used the sleeve of his tunic to wipe his nose.

"Oh I see… I'm a really good listener, if you ever need someone to talk with you can speak with me as long as I'm here," Kaoma offered.

"Thanks miss," Sydney replied too quickly.

 Which let Kaoma know in the way that he answered her that he didn't take her seriously at all.
