Chapter 22: CHAPTER 21 - Unveiling Strength in Shadows (6)

Ichiro felt as if he was floating in the sky. His eyes were slowly opening as he wondered where he was. Despite his blurry vision, he clearly noticed that he was in the school clinic.

"What just happened?" He asked, wondering how he ended up in the clinic.

"Oh, you're finally up."

"Ah-" Ichiro was not pleased to see the person who just pulled opened the curtains to the side. Behind the boy was the school doctor as well.

"Takahashi, are you alright? Why do you look so pale?"

'Who wouldn't look like this if you're seeing the grim reaper right in front of you.' Ichiro stated in his mind as he felt like death was waiting in front of him.

"Didn't you say he was fine?" Akihiko turned to the nerdy female doctor as he angrily questioned her.

"Please, I'm one of the best light users around. I can perfectly fix everything."

"Then explain that?" Akihiko pointed at the statued Ichiro who had completely turned pale and dumbfounded by the situation.

'This can't be happening?' Ichiro continued to speak to himself as he found his situation unbelievable.

"Takahashi, is something wrong? Tell me right away if you feel any sort of pain."

Ichiro snapped back to his senses and smiled awkwardly towards the school doctor. "Dr. Suzuka, I'm perfectly fine."

"Are you sure?" She stated as she went to check on the boy's condition once again. "Hmm, you don't seem to have any fever…"

Ichiro listened carefully to what she was stating. At the same time, the system was giving him a holographic report regarding his status. It showed a complete and clear diagram of his whole body and indicated that those parts that were broken were almost fixed. Despite being fixed by a great healer, one's body still needed to undergo the necessary recovery.

'Didn't expect Ren's punch could be that strong.' Ichiro continued to analyze the report. If he was back to his old self, he would have died from the blow Ren did. But, because he has been working out in secret and has strengthened his body, he barely managed to survive.

"Didn't you say he was fine?" Akihiko continued to question the doctor, noticing Ichiro seemed confused. Little did he know that Ichiro was busy contemplating on his life, the fact he had almost died earlier.

"He's fine. Why are you here anyway?" Doctor Suzuka questioned, wondering why someone like him would be here asking about Ichiro's condition.

"Ah, that's because he's my friend."

"WHAT?" Ichiro snapped back to his senses after hearing Akihiko's ridiculous remarks. How did the two of them end up being friends? Wasn't he the slave and he was his master? He has been cooking and cleaning for him.

"Aren't we?" Akihiko looked furious at Ichiro, to think he would not consider him as a friend after all the time they have spent together.

"Well…" Ichiro looked dumbfounded. He didn't know what to say as he was afraid for his life. 'Are we?' he thought to himself, questioning their relationship.

"Who would have thought the two of you are friends." Doctor Suzuka declared as she found the situation interesting. Akihiko was known to be a cold aloof person who doesn't mingle with anyone as he thinks lowly of them, while Ichiro was someone who doesn't have anyone around and was only getting attention when people bullied him. The weak and the strong are now friends, was something in a fantasy novel.

"So, he is fine?" Akihiko asked again.

"For a hundred times, he's fine. Apart from me, is there anyone else better to heal him?"

Akihiko said nothing. Even their family doctor isn't as good as her.

"Doctor, thank you." Ichiro awkwardly smiled, finding the situation strange. 'Have they been arguing since I was asleep?' he pondered on the situation between them. He wouldn't expect Akihiko to pester the doctor about his condition.

"By the way, how did I end up here?" Ichiro asked.

"Your classmate brought you here." Doctor Suzuka answered.

"My classmate?" Ichiro looked confused, did he have any special closeness with one of his classmates that they personally brought him to the clinic. "Not Senpai Fujimoto?"

"Nope, he was busy carrying the rest of your classmates."

"What?" Ichiro looked confused. The fact that his teacher was busy tending to his friends made him wonder what had happened while he was unconscious.

"Don't worry, they're all fine." Doctor Suzuka smiled assuring him they were indeed fine as she opened the curtain next to Ichiro's resting area and showed him his unconscious classmate.

"They don't look fine." Ichiro had a strange look on his face. It was obvious his classmates weren't doing fine. Their ears were bleeding, and they were pale as a sheet.

"Well, they are recovering." She awkwardly smiled because the truth is they weren't indeed fine. The intense vibrations fatally damaged their ear, leaving them with a permanent loss of sensory abilities. 'Well, they aren't ordinary students, so they'll recover.' She smiled to herself, thinking that all students are amazing to withstand such a fatal attack and are recovering fine.

"Here."

Ichiro was perplexed by the situation. He looked at the plastic bags of snacks that Akihiko was handing to him.

"These are?"

"I thought you'd be hungry after what happened." Akihiko stated as he handed the bag to Ichiro without waiting for him to say another word. "I gotta go."

"Thanks…" Ichiro hesitantly said as he didn't expect Akihiko to treat him as a friend.

Once Akihiko left, the doctor also went back to her desk to finish up the reports she needed to complete as she was unable to finish them due to Akihiko's constant questioning.

Ichiro opened the bag and, to his surprise, Akihiko had bought almost all the expensive snacks in the cafeteria. He had only gone to the cafeteria to buy a drink, as he couldn't afford the food. He faintly smiled as he opened each snack and tried them.

The next day, Ichiro was resting in his own home. Since the incident yesterday had reached his family's ears, they had constantly asked him to visit the main house. However, Ichiro ignored them by saying "Tell them I'm not well."

Because of his constant denial, the family had sent servants to observe him, which annoyed Ichiro as he had a hard time moving about.

'Should I go to his place?' Ichiro thought while thinking it was almost lunch. Since he was unable to gather the necessary ingredients because of the servants, he was left with the dilemma of what to eat for lunch.

In the end, Ichiro decided to take the risk and head out.

"Where are you going?"

"Out." Ichiro ignored the butler behind him. He was well aware that the servants would inform his uncle right away of his departure, which is why he didn't really care nor turned around to face him.

"Exactly where are you going?" the elder butler asked, annoyed at the young boy's arrogance.

"Somewhere."

"Stop playing dumb and tell me exactly where you are going. You do know the master will be hearing of this."

"Then tell me." Ichiro didn't really care if the butler or the servants would report to his uncle. Despite the constant bullying and abuse he had received, his uncle had never touched him.

"Very well, you better know the consequence of your action."

"I hope you do too." Ichiro mumbled to himself as he headed out of the main gate and out of their home.

Ichiro continued to walk the busy streets to Akihiko's home. Since he was being followed, he had no choice but to walk all the way there.

"If they weren't following me, I would have been there already." Ichiro was frustrated. Just because of the mock battle, his family had kept an eye on him. "I wonder how she's doing?"

Since Ichiro lost consciousness during the mock battle, he wasn't aware of Emi's condition. He knew that she had recovered from the metal pain she received and was far stronger than she looked. The fact that his classmates looked almost dead in the clinic worried him that Emi had received a fatal blow as well.

Ichiro arrived at the convenience store that he and Akihiko usually shopped at. He didn't want to go to his friend's place empty-handed, so he bought a few ingredients since he didn't have the money to buy more.

As he was at the counter checking out, he wondered if he had enough money. "I didn't know they'd be this expensive."
