Chapter 24: Your Worth To Me

The book levitated towards William and he took it. Another display of magic and prove enough he's a warlock, a warlock who purchased me for the worth of my body. Just thinking about it again got my insides boiling, I was furious, perplexed, and terrified, the warning signs were alarming in my head and told me to run, run away, and never look back.

But where can I run to?

"I see you have finished reading… " he says in that non-emotional tone of his. "Now you know your worth"

Was this his plan? To spare himself the liberty of telling me he directed me to this book just after he taught me words I don't understand, just for me to read it?

The sudden shut of the book caused the area to echo and I jumped at the sound but I stood my ground and offered my angry eyes.

He tilted his head to the side and I could tell he was studying me now.

"Perhaps it was too soon to read this, you're unable to grasp the truth yourself"

My teeth clenched.

"The reason why the filthy mortals treated you like a curse. Fairies outside their dimensions are considered a curse to the humans and high value to Warlocks"

My fist clenched on my skirt tightly on the verge of ripping the fabric off, I spared him no glance now for it wasn't worth it, the tears were leaking out of my eyes before I could stop them and I do not want him to see me like this, I didn't want to give him that satisfaction.

I have always hid whenever I cried, I didn't want anyone to see it but it seems I have not been doing much hiding lately.

"Why are you crying?" he asked.

There were two minutes of silence until I raised my gaze back to him. "Is…" I spoke and the sudden sound was alien to me for I couldn't even recognize my own voice, my voice sounded so dim that I could barely hear myself. "... this, my worth?" there was no use in containing this lie that I was a mute, it wasn't worth it after all, my fate was sealed the moment I fell into his hands.

"You can speak" there was no emotion in his voice. I couldn't tell if he was angry, surprised, or perhaps fascinated but I didn't care. I didn't care about anything anymore.

I opened my mouth to find words again but I was caught in my breath when William closed the distance between us and I forgot to breathe, but when my back found the shelf I did and it was shallow probably because my heartbeat was speeding like crazy.

What have I gotten myself into?

He placed one hand above my head against the shelf, the other was behind his back which I knew held onto the book. He leans to me until our faces were inches apart, and fear gripped me, my stupidity have earned me what I knew will be a quick death for me, I recalled what he did to that grandmaster's hand, and what is going to happen next to me caused my legs to be weak, I was terrified of what William will do to me for lying to him.

Should I run? I can't because he has caged me. Should I scream? I can't for no one will hear, should I push him? I cannot for he was like a giant and I was a twig in his presence, something he could easily snap without so much as trying. Death awaits me...

"Your worth, Ava is..." he began and a chill ran through my spine for I could feel an unusual heat coming off him, one I could not explain because his aura was all dark and cold so why was his temperature suddenly different?

"... your blood belongs to my taste for when I hunger for it... your flesh for my teeth to grease, your eyes for my sight, and everything and every knowledge I will show you about this world. Your kiss is mine to have as well, and your voice..." he leans further after saying words beyond my understanding and left me utterly tongue-tied. "...is for me alone to hear"

My eyes went wide like saucers, it wasn't fear that gripped me but rather utter astonishment!

William stood confused for the very first time, he had no idea why he uttered such unrefined words to her, it was a puzzle for him but he knew solely that is her worth to him and what her true purpose is to him. He also mentally chuckled in his head, Surely she must think he intends to kill her and use her flesh to forge a weapon or use her blood for an elixir or perhaps steal her voice... no no it was far from those things.

Her voice which he never thought his ears would heed come forth like a melody to him, Her voice was tiny and dim like that of a child, and sweet to his very ears that left him unable to comprehend it, and for an odd reason craved to hear more.

He thought she had lost her voice for he knew the mortal realm is cruel to her kind but he never thought she would actually lie to him about being mute, she was daring he would give her that for he knew she was scared of him and yet she was brave enough to lie to him.

This... was utterly interesting and it caused a smile to play on his lips. The book he held as he willed levitated off his grip and he brought that hand to grip her chin to make sure her eyes were focused on him, it caused his very orbs to gleam, they were already reacting to her eyes.

She was no longer shaking and he could no longer sense fear in her, she was completely in shock and it made him wonder how her reaction would be when he uttered these words.

"Now... What shall your punishment be? For lying to me"
