Carter Wilford spent the days following his return from Fort Worth working harder than ever. He longs to forget that day when he thoughtlessly went to see Bella only to find himself competing with Reef Davis and getting a reproachful reception from Bella.

  He felt he had been easily provoked by Alex Ross, who wanted his daughter back. In truth, her heart doubted Alex's sincerity when he said he didn't want to lose Carter as a son-in-law.
