Chapter 14: Chapter 14 War
For 5 hours they arrived 8 km away from 3rd fortress and alex look over his binoculars and saw 20,000 chronos soldiers besieging the 3rd fortress and when he saw how they attack he spoke
"Artillery set up on my spot and calculate the distance and bombard the enemy soldiers besieging" he ordered the soldiers that are lined up behind him
Soon the artillery men move the cannons and check and calculate the distance and loaded high explosive shells and when finish the calculation and gave a thumbs up to Alex
"Fire!"
BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
Large thundering noise was heard and in a matter of seconds the shells landed near the walls of the fortress and killed the Chronos soldiers who were singing and screams were heard but not to Alex due to the distance.
"Continue for firing 1 hour i will need 2,000 infantry to move down and kill off the remaining enemy" after talking he gazed at the enemy who were trying to find the the attack on where is it coming even the one eyed titans were punctured to the holes and the normal human soldiers were obliterated to nothingness
1 hour later
After firing over 2,000 shells the cannons stop firing and the infantry formed up and march down towards the fortress
"Send a messenger to the fortress tell them that the soldiers marching down are allies i don't want friendly fire to happen"
"Yes commander" one of the cavalry men saluted and left the area
20 minutes later.
The infantry arrived and saw the chronos soldier in the array but trained their rifles at them and fired and the bullets instantly killed them but some still escaped.
"Form into platoons and kill all of them.'' The colonel leading the battalion ordered his soldiers and soon they split up and killed the remaining titans and cronus regular infantrymen and some surrendered but they either stabbed or shot since they got secret orders to spare none.
"Colonel we finished up the area" one of the officers spoke
"Great order our men to send a messenger and tell them we finished our task"
"Yes colonel!"
Colonel Keller just sighed when he saw the damage of the fortress wall.
1 hour later
Alex leading the rest of the division near the fortress was met with the fortress commander
"Greetings supreme Commander i thank you for your assist"
Alex nodded and spoke pulling out a tube flare
"Don't worry in a matter of ours support will come' he l pulled the string in the other end and aimed it at the sky and two seconds later a red ball came out and when it reach 200 feet from the ground it glowed and at the distance
Artemis seeing the signal dispatch the first team to the fortress and she already assembled the teams that alex requested to be sent so right now there on standby
"Team to the 3rd fortress now others be on standby"
Alex, seeing it already launched, spoke to the fortress commander.
"Commander expect a team of engineers to arrive in 1-2 hours from this point on and were moving to the 4th fortress"
The commander seeing that red ball was the first shock since he felt that thing can ruin an entire wooden house.
"Soldiers were marching towards the 4th fortress form and let time wait for no one!" after Alex shouting they formed up into a column and march towards the 4th fortress
The 4th fortress…
It was a dense forest but around the fortress there were no trees and it's placed on a hillside and it's quite hard but prone to long sieges since it doesn't have a good view if allies can be spotted near the area.
Soldiers of Draconia move through the dense forest and move in different directions but here rifles are always trained in front of them, alex move on foot with the soldiers and he assigned his artillery to cleared path but decided to launch a white flare to fire upon the surroundings of the fortress but when he got closer to the fortress location he saw its not necessary
"Have our soldiers surround the area and wait for my orders"
"Yes sir" the officer salutes and transfers the orders to the soldiers and they begin covertly surrounding the siege camp using the dense forest and any enemy patrol they see, they silence them using their combat knife.
Soldiers crouched and trained their rifles and aimed at the siege camp and when Alex looked at it he stood up and raised his hand "Fire" then dropped signalling to open fire.
Then a long line of lead headed towards the scores of chronos soldiers who were being attacked in the rear.
"Keep firing for 40 minutes and after that give them no quarter!"
Soon every soldier fired 70 bullets and many chronos soldiers who tried to attack them but were punctured with bullets.
And after continuously firing for 40 minutes they equipped their bayonet knives and charged towards the enemy who was trying to run in different directions but were completely surrounded by the enemy.
"No prisoners!" Alex shouted as he pulled out his revolver and fired upon the running Chronos soldiers.
Since he began his small campaign he swore to never get prisoners.
1 hour later…
The battle was over. Alex saw the scores of dead chronos soldiers and spoke.
"Get ready once I launch the red flare. We're heading out and regrouping with the artillery brigade and cavalry and heading towards the 2nd and 1st fortresses."
Then Alex reached out to his coat and pulled out a flare tube and pulled the string in the end and a red ball launched out.
30 minutes later…
Alex looked up in the sky and saw its already noon and decided to eat his launch while marching and the ration packed soldiers also began eating while marching
And Alex was holding a mug of beef curry mix with rice and ate it happily while they pass the 3rd fortress and seeing it they saw the team that sent to repair the walls and right now they hastening the repairs since they were given a few days of peace in order for them to have a good sleep.
2 hours later…
Alex arrived at the 2nd fortress which was situated on fat lands and when he saw the rest he saw it was already being stormed by the chronos army meaning they were late as they saw one of the walls already penetrated.
War is unpredictable even if you want to change the outcome it cannot be undone and right now this is a hard lesson for Alex even if he doubled the speed of his march maybe his soldiers won't have enough strength
Alex rubbed his temples and sighed and turn to his staff and spoke to his officers
"Have our Artillery lined up and fire on the chronos soldiers inside the fortress and outside and our infantry will storm inside the fortress and rescue any living survivors"
"Sir what if the allied soldiers get hit inside the fortress?" one officer spoke with a concerned tone.
"It doesn't matter, we must do this now, go dispatch my orders!" Allex Yelled.
Soon the artillery were loaded up and ready to fire and 2 cannons aimed inside the fortress the rest aimed outside and near the punctured walls after that they gave the thumbs to the officer and after receiving the signal he raised his sword and motioned it down as a signal.
"Fire!"
BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
Roars of thunder came from the sky and when the shells landed screams and deafening explosions came after that and the soldiers both allied and enemy were hit and some screamed to the top of their lungs when they saw their lost limb and some collapse due to the explosion banging their eardrum.
Then the next volley came over 500 shells were unleashed upon the fortress and the outside and turned the area a desolate battlefield and Alex didn't mind anymore and signalled them to stop firing.
"Cease fire!" the artillery officer shouted, repeating the orders.
Soon the artillery went silent when over 2 minutes passed Alex opened his mouth.
"Infantry move in and secure the place and cavalry surround the fortress and make sure its secured"
Soon the 6k infantry moved forward and 150 cavalrymen began galloping.
30 minutes later…
The infantry split up and checked the dead bodies and saw some olympian soldiers alive but shellshock and some were deaf and some could not move due to the effects of the shrapnel and initial fight.
They begin moving and counting the surviving soldiers and when they got to the underground they had a small firefight due the olympian soldiers mistakenly attacking the Draconian soldiers but he died after getting shot.
"Sir there's an estimated 6,000 survivors and only 1,000 soldiers who still can fight most are lost limbs and shellshock and cannot fight and some are unconscious and in a traumatic state" a cavalryman spoke from the letter that was given to him.
Alex breathed in and out and spoke.
"Okay allocate 80 cavalry men and escort the injured back to the camp and tell Artemis the situation and reinforce this fortress and the 1,000 soldiers will stay here and continue to guard the fortress and I want 1,000 and 500 of our soldiers stationed there."
The cavalrymen saluted and left the area.
Alex was forced to wait for 2 hours and when everything was alright he ordered the army to begin moving to the final objective and after he is not going to retire back to the main camp he will create a defensive line to block the second wave.
2 hours later…
Alex and his army arrived at the 1st fortress where right now both sides are resting but Alex didn't care.
"Have our artillery fire on the chronos camp. I see some titans asleep and bomb them relentlessly for 2 hours and 700 infantrymen check the remnants."
The soldier rode to the back to spread the order of Alex.
4 hours later…
Alex gaze up to the night sky and when he look straight he saw large flames and some barely arrived enemy troops running as they were burned alive but gunned down by Draconian soldiers firing on him and some screamed but were silence by a bayonet to its abdomen and the remaining titans were shelled to death by the artillery and seeing the carnage he just smiled as the dead bodies gathered in the middle of the camp and Alex has to restrain his powers if he does they will swarm his position which didn't give him a tactical advantage.
Alex spoke up.
"Leave the camp burning i will launch the last flare and order the army to make camp and rest for now and tomorrow noon we will continue to march and create a defensive line" Alex finished speaking as he pulled out a tube and fired.
The final flare was launched and Alex assembled his tent without any help and the soldiers began to build a small wooden fort and begin resting.
Alex entered his tent and pull out a drink which is a special liquor that can heal his fatigue and calm his mind he lay on the back and closed his but not before going to deep sleep that he muttered something
"War"
