Della groaned softly as she couldn't stop herself from yawning after she finished her lesson. Lately, Della was really burning with the fire of revenge that she was playing games longer than ever. She played games until more than midnight. Her face looked sleepy, as she attended lessons as usual.
"Geez, even you yawned while listening to the teacher speak. Ah ... I really want to go home right now. When can we go home, Della?"
Adam, Della's seatmate, spoke up as the girl lightly rubbed her eyes and then fixed her sitting position again. Della looked at her seatmate after Adam spoke. The girl turned to glance at the clock on her hand, before speaking in a low voice.
"There's still an hour left before the lesson is over. Let's just pray that this teacher doesn't extend our study time," Della informed. The teacher who taught the last lesson right now did sometimes add study time arbitrarily if her lesson wasn't over yet. Della usually had no problem with that. But just this once, Della also secretly hoped that the teacher would let them go home early.
"Yes, you're right. Oh my God ... Please ... Please let us go home early today..."
Della chuckled as her friend began to pray while ignoring their teacher, who was talking in front of the class. Della was grateful that because the seats in her class were always randomized, she could sit at the back this time. Della couldn't imagine what would happen if she sat at the front and someone other than Adam witnessed her yawning in class.
Della was used to being an example to people. She couldn't let anyone see that she yawned because she was sleepy after spending so much time playing games lately.
After class finally finished as all the students wanted, as usual, Della immediately went to the student council room to carry out her duties as student council president. Della walked with Adam, which seemed to have made Della quite used to being followed by him all the time. Adam was the vice president of the organization. They talked all the way, the atmosphere harmonious until Adam suddenly stopped in the middle of the road.
"Ah! I forgot I have a guild event today ...."
Della raised her eyebrows when Adam suddenly brought up gaming in their conversation. She was not strange about her friend's behavior, as Della had known Adam for a long time. Adam was known as a gaming maniac among the people who knew him. From the first time Della knew Adam until now, the girl had never seen him go a day without playing games on his cell phone or laptop. Seeing him talking about games wasn't unusual anymore. Della smiled a little as she asked her friend a question, stopping in her tracks like Adam.
"What game event?" she asked lightly. Adam scratched his cheek awkwardly after hearing Della's question. Della had always been very dedicated to her tasks. Although Adam knew Della wouldn't get upset if he brought up games, Adam was afraid he'd give her a hard time by nagging her while they were on their way to the student council room. Adam quickly shook his head before smiling and continuing his walk again.
"It's ... It wasn't an important event. I just suddenly remembered it. It's fine. We're going to sort the students' point records today, right? That event can wait for another time."
Adam laughed dryly at the beginning of the sentence. He grew nervous as Della gave him a long look. The girl had a reputation for being kind, but her obsession with any job would sometimes scare Adam a little too.
"You don't look so confident."
Adam was silent. Yes, the event was too good to miss. The prizes were pretty good, and he had waited a long time for the event. Adam looked at Della expectantly, before giving up on his plan to give up the event to be close to Della.
"Tales of Dungeon. Have you ever heard of it? It's an MMORPG game that's very popular right now. Ah, no. It's been popular since the game was just released!"
Seeing the excited face of her vice chairman, Della finally realized that she was not the only one who liked the game. Della began to get a little distracted by the words that a big event was going to happen today. The girl considered the decision she had made before asking Adam once more.
"Do the other student council members ... Also play that game?" she asked carefully. Della tried not to make her question sound like she was interested in the game. It would be bad if someone knew she liked to play games too. Her parents would not be happy to hear the news. At least, Della was sure about that.
Hearing Della's question, Adam was even more confused as he answered in an unsure tone. "Yeah ... As far as I know, almost all the student council members play the game. Ah, yes. Some are even in the same guild as me. Ah ... The guild is some kind of organization that makes it easier for us to enjoy the game ... Or, something like that."
Adam was afraid that Della would be too confused by the terms he used, so the man was happy to explain what he knew about the game. Della listened seriously, although her heart sank when she saw Adam trying so hard to present the game as an amazingly interesting game.
Adam didn't know that even before she played, Della had first explored the world with her virtual friends.
Talking about her virtual friends...
Della finally realized that if the event really existed, it would be a loss if she didn't participate in it. Della had to make her character strong as soon as she could. While she was busy going about her daily activities, Della knew that her old friends in the guild were probably busy strengthening themselves. Della was caught between her feelings of responsibility and her desire to get back online in the game. Della clenched her fists tightly before she spoke again in as calm a tone as she could.
"Today's agenda is just to collect the students' minus points and enter them into the offense ledger. Tell the others that we will be off for the day. As for the points, you can send them as pictures so that I can enter them into the points ledger myself."
Adam was just about to ask Della to continue their journey when the chairman suddenly decided to do so. To Adam, Della's behavior was really strange today. Never once had Adam seen Della agree to something for such an insignificant reason. Della usually wouldn't care about anything except her studies and assignments. Adam always thought that Della was the very definition of a strict workaholic. The Della he knew would never allow their work to be delayed just to play games like that.
Adam was pensive as he looked at Della, who was still trying to look calm. The girl coughed once before continuing her speech in a firmer tone.
"We shouldn't have meetings every day. We'll be stepping down soon. So, taking a break now and then would be fine."
"Did the sun suddenly rise from the west?"
That's what Adam thought when he saw his workaholic leader suddenly talking about their time off.
