Third Person POV
Land of Fire, Year 38.
...
...
In the village of Konoha, things continued to function, only slightly affected by the war. After all, some products from other countries were being prevented from being traded due to the conflict, which was quite obvious.
Even so, the village's atmosphere remained the same as ever, almost as if there was no war. Many people were saddened by the news of their relatives' deaths, but there wasn't a general depression hanging over the village because of it.
After the breach where ninjas entered the village attempting an attack, with Minato stopping most of them before any dangerous damage could be done, the village's security was greatly reinforced, catching more ninjas trying to enter and preventing all kinds of attacks.
The ones in charge of the village were the two elders who weren't on the battlefield. Reports had reached them about the war fronts, and both shared a way of thinking about Minato similar to Danzou's, trying to imagine how to combat him if he became a threat to the village.
"That boy... is getting too powerful in such a short time..." Homura Mitokado murmured, looking at the report.
"Indeed... this is becoming dangerous, the boy is growing very fast..." Koharu Utatane said from across him.
To them, Minato had been a talented ninja before. Hiruzen protected him due to his student's interest in the boy. Both Danzou and Orochimaru wanted the boy, but as they knew, Minato ended up with Jiraiya, someone who, in the opinion of the councilors, was too soft.
Now, the boy had made a name for himself and was gaining political power in the village. People were paying more attention to his actions, something that was getting out of their control. After all, what was a war hero compared to middle-aged people who made decisions for the village, many of which might not be well-received?
"We must find Hiruzen as soon as he returns to the village." Their concern mirrored Danzou's.
"In any case... there's nothing we can do now... we just have to wait." Homura Mitokado concluded, while his companion nodded. They would have to deal with Minato as soon as he caused problems or questioned their decisions. After all, Minato wasn't affiliated with any of them.
Meanwhile, in another part of the village, a boy was running through the streets excitedly, wearing a green jumpsuit. He was returning from the academy, thrilled... Might Guy was 5 years old at that time, and he was training to become a very strong person in the future.
"I will get stronger and defeat my rival!!" Guy exclaimed excitedly, drawing the attention of the villagers, who thought he was a strange boy running through the village dressed like that while shouting words no one understood.
"I'll go back to my new house and do 20,000 push-ups, then I'll show that Kakashi-baka that Might Guy will be the strongest ninja!" He exclaimed as he headed toward the Senju property.
"That boy... he shouts every day, where does he get so much energy..." A hidden ANBU ninja commented from a tree.
"I certainly wish I had that kind of energy too..." His colleague remarked, watching Guy run into the yard.
These were ninjas guarding the jinchuuriki of the Kyuubi. After all, Kushina needed constant surveillance due to being the host of the fox—whether her seal might break or someone attempted to kidnap her, their job was to ensure nothing bad happened to the girl.
They returned their attention to Guy, who had started training intensely by doing push-ups in the yard. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5!" With each push-up, he let out a shout.
"Here we go again..." one ANBU muttered.
"Hahaha. He still uses those seals... He's certainly strong for his age," the other commented.
"I heard he can't use ninjutsu... what kind of ninja will he be? To me, he's a loser..." a third remarked.
"Don't say that, he's just a child..."
"You say that because you don't know his father... it won't be long before he turns 30... did you know he's still a Genin!? Can you believe that?!" His colleague began to laugh.
"Don't forget that the boy has been here for over two years... almost three since his mother went to the hospital, and the late Mito-Sama was very fond of him..." another colleague commented.
"Tsk. Whatever." The person behind the mask didn't mock anymore, seeing that their colleagues weren't joining in.
"Anyway... now we're just babysitters for the jinchuuriki and the boy, get used to it. We're here while our village is fighting on all fronts," one of them complained, wanting to go to war.
At that moment, someone appeared, landing on a branch near them. "Stop complaining, we're helping the village as much as we can. Don't be ungrateful, just do your job!" Their leader arrived at that moment, and everyone immediately stood at attention for him.
"Yes, sir! I apologize!" the ninja quickly muttered.
"Well, it doesn't matter now. I need to deliver something to the girl, so I'll be right back." He said, jumping from the tree, passing through the yard where Guy was still doing his push-ups.
He approached the main door of the largest building on the property and knocked on it. It took only a few seconds before someone approached and opened the door.
"Yes?" Kushina appeared, looking at the masked ninja, confused. After all, they always called her to tell her something important, and she was already used to being watched constantly.
"Some information you always asked us for." The ninja said as he handed Kushina a scroll. He had a daughter the same age as her, who was currently at war, so he couldn't help but think of his daughter every time he looked at Kushina. The red-haired girl always asked for information about the war, mainly wanting to know about her friends, and in particular, about Minato.
"Really?!" Kushina was delighted, as she always enjoyed reading anything about Minato, who always seemed to be doing something. She eagerly clutched the scroll to her chest and looked at the older ninja. "Thank you, Dattebane!!" she exclaimed.
"..." The ninja simply nodded and disappeared, returning to the group. This information had fallen into his reports, so the elders didn't know about it. Even if they did, they couldn't do much, as it was public information.
Kushina nodded, now alone, about to read the scroll when she heard Guy's shouts at that moment. "Hm?"
"188, 189, 190, 191, 192!" His push-ups continued as Kushina approached.
"Guy! What are you doing? I have information about Minato. Don't you want to read it?" she asked with a smile.
"Information about Minato-san?! Of course, I want to, but I'll finish first!" Guy declared.
"You never pick a small number, and I can't wait. How many push-ups are you doing today?" she asked, knowing there were days when Guy would stay in the yard until sunset.
"Just 20,000." Guy replied before moving on to the next.
"JUST 20,000!? YOU'RE CRAZY!!" Kushina exclaimed with a grimace as Guy looked a little confused.
In the end, the ANBU in the trees watched Guy stop his training and go inside with Kushina, as she opened the scroll and began reading it aloud for Guy, who loved hearing anything about Minato.
"..." Kushina.
"..." Guy.
Both were shocked by the end of the report, as Minato had done something bigger than anything he had done before.
"He really did that?! He's so strong!" Guy exclaimed. "Minato has the power of youth, a power I aspire to master!" he declared. "So, I'm going to do 100,000 push-ups!" He ran off while Kushina seemed not to hear him, still lost in her thoughts.
"To think Minato is becoming so famous..." she murmured, a little sad. "It's been two years since he's appeared... he hasn't even sent a letter... I hope he's alright..." She thought of the two years without Mito, which had been lonely while she felt as if she were always trapped in a cage.
'I wish so much to see him again...' she thought, her greatest wish... as she hugged the scroll and looked down at her thigh, where there was a semi-tattooed mark. It wasn't easily removable. Minato had asked her to keep this mark, so that if she were ever in danger, she could activate chakra in it, and he would know, no matter the distance.
Kushina had thought many times about touching the mark with chakra, just to see him again. As much as her heart longed for Minato to be there, she knew it could cause a big problem for him, even leading to accusations of desertion... So she remained strong, waiting for the day when she could truly see him. After all, her days were no longer peaceful. Sometimes, she found herself standing before a giant fox trapped inside her, demanding that she release it. It was terrifying for Kushina.
'I must be strong... he'll be here soon...' Kushina murmured. Minato was the person she most wanted by her side. When she heard so much from Tsunade and Tsuna about Minato's feats when they came to the village, she felt both happy and anxious.
"Anyway..." Kushina snapped out of her thoughts. "I'll prepare dinner for Guy and his mother..." she said. After all, Guy and his mother had been living with her since the woman went to the hospital and was brought to Kushina's place. The woman's health wasn't very good... yet she was still better than before. Kushina herself treated her after learning medical ninjutsu. She spent most of her time learning to heal and studying the sealing techniques that Mito had left for her.
"I'll also prepare some sandwiches to take to Minato's orphanage tomorrow." She said to herself, as she often visited Madame Gorete's orphanage whenever she could. Kushina then disappeared down the hallway, while the sound of Guy continued to echo with each push-up. The ANBU kept watch over the Senju property for yet another day, hearing the absurd numbers coming from a nearly six-year-old child saying he would become stronger and surpass someone called Kakashi, his apparent rival at the academy.
At that very moment, at the village entrance...
"You may pass, good luck..." A Konoha ninja said to some men pulling a cart into the village.
They continued through the streets of Konoha, as ninjas ran across the rooftops and the marketplace buzzed with activity.
"So, this is Konoha..." one of them said.
"Yes... it seems we've finally entered the village," another replied, laughing.
"More than a year... and we finally did it. It was about time..." the first one spoke again.
These were infiltrated ninjas, part of an attack planned by Kumo over a year ago. They knew it wouldn't be easy to get into the village, so they decided to blend in with the citizens of the Land of Fire, showing up in a village and quickly starting to work, making money, posing as merchants, farmers, or hunters for a year. They had finally managed to enter the village without arousing suspicion.
Their mission was simple: capture the jinchuuriki of the Nine-Tails, and they had completed the hardest step.
"We have six months left before Raikage-sama considers us dead... So, let's set up a shop here in the coming months, monitor the possible jinchuuriki, observe her movements, her guards, and finally... act." The group leader spoke, and the others nodded in agreement.
And so began the mission to capture Kushina, to take her to the Village Hidden in the Clouds.
Meanwhile, in another location, to the south of the country, Guren continued swimming as he fought several sea monsters, swinging his tail and defeating each one of them. All were knocked out, and after defeating over a hundred, they floated in the water.
"I'm almost ready for the waterfall...!" Guren murmured with satisfaction. "Minato would be shocked by my progress... Speaking of which, I wonder how he's doing..." Guren couldn't help but wonder, after two years without hearing from his friend.
