Chapter 7: A new home
After what happened with Cain the trio stayed silent throughout the rest of the flight. After about a day of flying, they finally saw what looked like a giant metal building in the shape of a U resting in the valley of two snow-capped mountains.
Continuing toward the smaller mountain Cain saw the ground open to reveal a landing pad surrounded by soldiers armed with all manner of weapons ranging from swords to axes and even some guns. Just before lading Adam shakily took Cain's bag with the wooden carvings, which had the addition of a life-like crow in an open-wing pose, but kept far away from the fox carving, and put mechanical cuffs on Cain's wrists and ankles which had a smaller cuff on the ankle for his tail.
Being dragged out of the helicopter Cain held onto his treasure as he was brought to a middle-aged man who wore a slightly different uniform from the rest. The uniform had a small bronze star on the collar and was red instead of the deep green that the rest of the soldiers had.
"good work Adam, I take it this is the lab rat the base prime one was holding?" hearing the man say the words 'prime' and 'one' made Cain shiver slightly. Ignoring Cain's reaction to the voice of his superior Adam gave a salute and answered "sir, this is indeed the creature I was meant to capture, sir"
Hearing this the captain looked over at Cain like he was looking at a prize cow and said "what are you called?" looking at the captain with his usual dead eyes he said, "my name is Cain." seeing the disrespect that Cain had given his the captain smacked him and said "I am captain miro poturo and I am as of now the man overseeing your containment and study. I did not ask your name, thing, I asked what you were called."
Looking at the man with a look of disinterest he said "my name is Cain." hearing the same answer as before captain miro glared at Cain and spoke to one of his subordinates and spoke, "take him to a class two containment cell." after saying this his radio began buzzing. Picking it up he said "captain miro poturo, who is this?." after a short break a voice came out "poturo, take the subject to a temporary human holding cell, and then some see me in my office." after a short break he added "and bring that boy Adam with you."
Recognizing the voice over the radio miro spoke formally "sir, I will do that right away, sir" and then turned off his radio. Looking back at Cain he said snarled and said "you lucky thing. If it was up to me you would be going in the cell and then straight to the labs to be cut open so we can see what makes you tick." looking back up he spoke to a soldier and said "take him to a temporary holding cell. And Adam" looking at captain miro Adam said "sir." "come with me." "yes sir."
Walking down a hall Cain saw some paintings and sculptures that had different beasts in them. looking at them they seemed to hold a regal and noble aura around them. however, further down he saw one that he recognized "wolf." stopping and looking at the painting there was a majestic wolf on top of a mountain surrounded by lightning and thunder howling at a brilliant Blue Moon.
Looking at the painting cain remembered what happened to Alice. Slowly, without him realizing it, he began to unleash his bloodlust toward the thing that took her away from him.
At the same time in a different part of the base, Adam and miro had just entered a room. Looking around Adam noticed that the room was very minimalistic, having only a small picture sitting on a desk that had the picture of a small family that had two playing with their dad and a sickly-looking mother sitting in a chair smiling as she looked at them play.
Looking up from the picture Adam saw a kind-looking elderly man that looked in his late 60s to early 70s. Looking back at Adam the man said "come, have a seat." while pointing to a couple of chairs. After they sat down the man said "before you speak, I don't like formalities so please, speak freely. Now having said that could you please tell me about the boy that you found at that ruined base."
Hearing what the man said Adam began to explain his experience with Cain "if I were to explain him in a few words they would be a wolf in sheep's clothing" raising an eyebrow the elderly man said "oh? And if you were to use more than that?" knowing that he meant to explain further Adam continued
"When I first saw him he was wearing some tanned animal skins and had an animal skin bag on his back so I thought he was just a tribal from the area, however when we landed so I could ask him some questions he said 'you're looking for me. Aren't you?' which confused me so asking further he suddenly grew out a tail and horns. Realizing that he was who we were looking for we brought him onto the helicopter and began to fly back to base" pausing to take a breath, Adam continued
"but about halfway through our flight, he said 'prey' and jumped out, seeing what he had done I looked out and saw him grow wings and attack a class two gale crow and kill it before flying back." hearing the mention of the crow miro spoke up.
"you mean to say that it jumped out, killed a class two gale crow, and flew back and you didn't do anything?" hearing the allegation Adam turned towards miro and said "it wasn't that I didn't do anything it's that I couldn't. He had killed it before me or my pilot could react." hearing this miro just scoffed and said "well. continue then." So Adam continued
"After flying back he proceed to bite in to it and drain it of all it's blood and eat it until there wasn't even bone left." recalling what had happened Adam shivered "afterward he took out a crude knife and a block of wood and began carving the crow." reaching into the bag he had brought with him he pulled out the knife and carvings.
Seeing the different carvings the man's eyes began to show some interest. on the other hand, miro scoffed again "you want me to believe the thing that had been living in the woods cared this with this?" while saying this miro picked up the knife and the life-like crow carving. Looking at miro the man said "do not interrupt." he then turned back to Adam and said "please, continue"
"After asking some questions that I answered while he was carving I saw one caving that didn't look like the rest so I picked it up." remembering what happened after he enters a cold sweat and said "if I could go back in time I would slap my self for touching that monsters things"
pointing at the carving now sitting on the deck he said "if he hadn't let me bring these in I wouldn't have dared to touch them." hearing the fear in his voice miro mocked him "ha, scared of a boy? For what reason? If I was there I would have taken that caving and broken it in front of his face to show him what would happen to him if he didn't listen." just as he said this he felt a bloodlust that shook him to his marrow. "w-what. What is that?" shivering miro whispered.
Felling the familiar anger Adam shook and slowly said "that. That is why I wouldn't have brought the carvings here. That is what would have happened to you if you had dared to touch that. That things treasures."
