"Migs?"
I had to blink several times to make sure that I was not hallucinating. I have not seen Migs since he left me...many years ago.
He was the first man-boy who had somehow understood me. But, he had to work in another country. I was hoping that he would be the forever kind.
I was wrong.
Seeing him right now was really unexpected.
Time had treated him well. He was still the good looking guy I fell in love with. He lost his Keanu Reeves young look, but he looked more like the adult version now, minus the beard. Nothing much had changed to be honest. He just looked older.
"Julie?" He asked.
Migs was smiling. It was the kind of smile I remember when we were together. I cannot help but grin back at him.
Him being at The Belle was something I would never expect.
His steps were sure when he walked towards me. There was no trace of hesitation in his movements, like time was irrelevant, like he never broke my heart.
I walked two steps ahead and raised my hand, a silent invitation for a high-five. The surprised look on his face told me that he was not expecting such a welcome.
Guess I did the right thing.
I looked at the front desks and nodded to Thor, the man was doing wonders in manning the helm. Jana and Renzie wanted some time with their family. Thor's presence made the other gods who had been staying at The Belle become more careful.
But it was Duncan's penetrating gaze that caught me. His eyes were glowing again, but the glow was not directed to me. It was at Migs.
I groan internally. He must have read his thoughts. Although as they have said, the sounds of humans' thoughts were dampened if gods stayed at The Belle, it doesn't mean that they really could not voluntarily read their minds when they wanted to.
The sounds of their thoughts were more like a steady hum of a fridge.
"Lass, we can still read thoughts if we want. The difference is those thoughts are not broadcasted while we are at The Belle." Those were his words.
From the looks of his face, he broke his own rule.
When Mig's palm connected to mine, the sensation I felt the first time we touched was not there. There were no goose bumps, no giddy feeling like before. There was nothing.
He, on the other hand, must have felt something because he tried to draw me into his arms. So I did the only thing I could do.
I quickly dodge him and walk backward with a smile on my face, hands clasped behind me when I said, "Hi, Migs."
It was Duncan's hand connecting with mine that stopped my movement. I felt him entwining our fingers before unclasping my hand. He then drew me close and smiled down at me.
My heart skipped a beat, and I could feel myself smiling back at him as I looked up at him. I really hated our height differences. But at this moment, I was not thinking about it, I was too lost in his gaze.
"Hello, MY lass," he said in a voice that was loud enough for everyone to hear, empathizing with the word MY.
I close my lips to stop the smile from coming out. He was jealous, and he was not being shy about it. I glanced at Thor. The man was doing his best not to laugh. My eyes caught Zeus leaning against the door frame of the hall separating the front desk and the waiting area. He too was smiling.
"Hello, my laird. How are you?" I replied, trying my best not to laugh out loud. Yes, there was a soft smile on his lips, but his gaze was saying another thing.
So when my words finally sank in, the shadows I saw in his eyes began to withdraw, and his smile became a full blown one.
"My Laird. I like the sound of that," he replied. He leaned down till our lips were mere inches apart.
I nodded, the smile I was trying to stop appeared. He was going to kiss me. Should I stop him?
No, besides, something in me was telling me it was okay, that I would be safe when I am with him. That no matter what happened, Duncan would never leave.
For the first time in my life, I was welcoming a public display of affection.
"I am yours, lass. I will always be yours forever." Were his last words before Duncan kissed me.
It was a kiss full of possession, promise, and total surrender on my part. I did not know why I suddenly acted brazen, why I was so bold to kiss this man in front of others.
Maybe it was Migs. Maybe it was the way Zeus was looking at me and Duncan. Either way, Duncan's kisses felt right that very moment.
I wound my arms around him and let my body lean into his. Duncan responded by holding me close, I could feel how aroused he was. I wanted right there and then to just strip and do him, yet…
His tongue danced with mine and drew it into his mouth. He then proceeds to suck it. A loud moan escaped my closed lips. I was so lost with the way he kissed me that it took a while to remember where we were.
["Duncan, you need to get a room, boy. The front desk is not the proper place to take her."]
I was startled with the sound I heard inside my mind. Duncan must have sensed it because he opened my eyes and looked at me before he replied, ["Thank you for reminding me. Rest assured that I and my mate will be locked up at my castle for a month so we will not be disturbed."]
My eyes widened. I could hear Zeus' thoughts through Duncan. The man on the other hand, gave one final swipe of my lips before enclosing me in his arms.
["Who would have thought that your mate was a mortal? Considering your son was born from a mortal woman too."]
["Fate must have loved me then,"] I heard his reply. He looked unconcerned that I could hear their conversation as Duncan was massaging the back of my neck. He lean down, then whispered, "Squeeze my hand and tell me if you can."
["Ha! Fate is fucked up. We should be the ones who control what happens to us. Yet we are still governed by an entity we have never seen."] Zeus replied. I could feel how angry he was and I could not help but wince and did what Duncan told me to do.
Duncan dropped a kiss on my forehead before speaking aloud, "Zeus, should you be with your wife?"
There was a loud booming laugh from where the leader of the Greek gods was leaning on the door frame. "I get it. I get it. I shall take my leave. However, Laird Duncan, the heavens are looking."
"Are you?"
"Oh, no, I would not be doing such a thing. But then again, I cannot speak for the rest of them." There was something in his voice that made me realize the severity of Duncan's action.
Duncan, the King of Tuatha Dé Danann, had chosen a mortal as his mate. ME.
Deities have paths that were paved with hardships and strife. And for him to pick me was inviting the dark lord in his door steps.
Our path is set. Our lives have started to intertwine…
Whatever happens now, we will be dealing with it together.
Right?
