Chapter 11: Power Ranking and Predator's Training

Criminals were sent to the Nightmare Island by the Summoner Academy and other academies for them to fight for their survival.

Planet Darvis was not like earth, in here, strength was paramount. The rule was that no matter how many crimes a criminal committed, so long as he survived the trial of the Nightmare Island, he would be released.

The trail of the Nightmare Island comprised 5 visits to this deadly island. So long as a criminal survived all 5 visits here, he was a free man again.

After they were dropped on the island, Legolas was not the only one who was wise enough to slip away. Those who stayed to fight among themselves were the naïve newbies who knew nothing about the dangers of the island.

Legolas had no intentions of returning to the Summoner Academy, and since every visit to the island lasted a month, he had less than 30 days to make his preparations to escape.

Escaping through the sea was suicide since it was even more dangerous than the island. The only way to escape was to outsmart their captors.

After thinking for hours, Legolas discovered that the only way to escape was a month later when the warriors from the academies came to take them back.

If he could outsmart them and hijack a Mountain Toad, then his escape was half-way to success. His plan was good but he also recognized its weaknesses, he could not implement this plan and succeed alone.

To succeed, he needed the help and cooperation of the veteran criminals in the island. Strength in numbers was the way to go for his plan.

Despite arriving at the plan already, Legolas had no intentions of going to tell the criminals yet. When dealing with criminals, you needed to have the strength to back your words or you would simply be ignored or squashed to death.

Legolas learned this from experience, not books.

This was why the first phase of his plan was getting stronger. As a Summoner, the best way to get stronger was by increasing the strength of his contracted beast.

As one of the co producers of Dominator, before his death and subsequent reincarnation, Legolas knew that the game had a chronological power ranking.

Though he knew, he still inquired from his interface to confirm it.

Back on earth, Legolas remembered that the Grade SS and Grade SSS realms were still experimental, they were part of the upgrades that they intended to implement before the explosion interrupted everything.

He wondered if these 2 ranks were already operational in this world. Well, that didn't matter now, what mattered was Predator's training.

Legolas turned to face Predator. "Wanna go hunting, Predator?"

The young Nightmare Beast jumped to show his enthusiasm, making Legolas smile but once he turned to face Lucky, his face fell.

"Don't even try to coerce me into training, you are yet to pay me the rewards that you promised on helping you locate naïve Predator".

"I-I'll pay once we leave the island".

"I'll train once we leave the island". The yellow fox licked her paws nonchalantly, leaving Legolas feeling like his brain was on fire.

"How the f*ck did I end up with such a pet? This can't be karma, right?"

Despite complaining though, Legolas was not completely clueless. After spending a few hours with Predator and Lucky, he already understood their personalities. Predator was pretty simple, foolish but lovable.

As for Lucky, this Star Fox was too clever for her own good. She was shrewd, lazy, and difficult to understand but Legolas already got her Achilles heel.

She was rewarded as his pet for a reason. Just like him, Lucky was extremely curious, curiosity was her Achilles heel.

"Come on Predator, since Lucky don't want to go, we'll get to see the Nightmare Dragons alone. I heard these bad boys are the most fearsome in the whole island, capable of obliterating even heavens".

Predator was soon jumping around excitedly as Legolas spoke.

Lucky pretended not to give a damn but as her 2 companions walked away, she finally reacted. "Umm, are Nightmare Dragons real? Not that I'm curious, I just wanted to know".

"Of course, they are real".

"Well, if you still need my invaluable help, I can pity you and…"

"Thank you, Lucky". Legolas's smile was wide.

After a fierce battle against a young Silverback Gorilla that suddenly broke out from the forest in the island, Predator finally emerged victoriously.

Predator was injured from the battle and like usual, Legolas appeared from the forest where he hid before applying healing ointments on its body.

This was the fighting style of Summoners. Just like in the game, here, Legolas could hide at a safe distance while he controlled his contracted beast to fight through their telepathic connection.

The telepathic control was not exactly like playing a game. Predator still had full control over its own thoughts and attacks, all Legolas did was give it directives on how to fight better and more effectively kill its opponent.

As a veteran at this, with Legolas's help, a 2-year-old Predator was able to kill this powerful Silverback Gorilla after killing 3 other beasts in a row already.

As Legolas patted Predator's head, commending its performance, Lucky suddenly alerted them. "3 Wind Coyotes spotted ahead".

For this hunt, Lucky served as the scout of the team, she had impeccable eyesight and smelling sense that could sniff enemies from afar.

Once she alerted them, Legolas worked faster on applying the healing ointment but before he was done, he could already hear the sounds of thudding claws on the forest floor and the growl of the adult Coyotes.

"Roar!"

Legolas rolled fast out of the danger zone as Predator roared angrily before pouncing on the 3 coyotes at the same time without even thinking.

Knowing the simple-minded personality of his contracted beast, Legolas did not order it to attack otherwise, rather, he rapidly observed the 3 enemy Coyotes to discover how he could assist Predator to take care of them.

Beasts grow stronger by fighting, killing, and devouring the beast cores of other beasts amid a host of other factors which gives them experience points, and Predator was just 2 years old, he was no match for 3 adult Coyotes alone.

Feeling the danger herself, for the first time, Lucky hissed in alarm as a subtle green glow suddenly radiated with her as the center.

"Luck glow!"

On seeing the physical manifestation of the legendary luck glow, Legolas's nerves calmed completely. He simply let Predator do what he wanted.

The 3 adult Coyotes boxed Predator in to attack him from 3 sides but mid-movement, luck played against them and one of them got their legs stuck in a tree root. The momentum went against the adult Coyote and it fell defenselessly.

Predator's eyes shone as it instantly pounced on the Coyote.

The massive beast tried to struggle but the smaller Nightmare Beast's sword-like teeth dug into its neck, Predator's tusks also stabbed it, injuring it even further as the Coyote cried in pain.

The 2 other Coyotes were alarmed as they tried to help but in mere seconds, the first one was already dead. Predator turned to face them.

Again coincidentally, the angle at which one of the Coyotes ran at made it collide against Predator's tusk as the tusk stabbed all the way through.

Predator instinctively activated his Claw Barrage skill next as his deadly claws wrought destruction on the beast, the Coyote was close to death in no time.

The last Coyote was already close as it tried to bite the back of Predator's neck, but this was when Legolas arrived with his alloy sword.

Whoosh!

With one movement of his sword, the Coyote lost its head. Legolas killed the last Coyote as blood flowed from its body.

Despite the pain that he experienced, once all 3 Coyotes lay dead on the forest floor, Predator turned to look at Legolas proudly.

Legolas smiled. "Yes, you did good".

"No pain, no gain".

As Legolas led his pet and his contracted beast back to his cave, he accessed his virtual game interface and spent a part of his experience points.
