Chapter 34: Inside
As soon as he reached the dungeon, Alex could feel the difference in the environment. There was a noticeable increment in the quantity of mana in the atmosphere. The air felt fuller and energizing to Alex.
It was a completely different experience.
'My powers will work for an extended period in this environment. I know why many people prefer living inside dungeons. This was the best environment to train and recover.' Thought Alex.
If he can train for two hours intensely outside the dungeon, Alex felt like he could train for eight hours inside the dungeon. That was a fourfold increase in training efficiency. No one would dare scoff at that.
And with increased training efficiency, he would be able to increase his strength faster. Although it was not his current reason to enter the dungeon. He felt like he could make use of the environment to test some thoughts. Learning more about his superpowers will surely help him in the future.
"Team leader, where are we going?" Tara, who was with Thomas, asked.
After becoming a detective, this was her first training session with her teammates. So, she wanted to do well and impress them. She was excited about that.
"We are now inside the demon world. One of the most dangerous dungeons discovered. After careful consideration, it is decided that we will train in the level four region for a week. We might make changes in our schedule accordingly." Thomas replied.
Like all dungeons, regions inside the dungeons were classified according to danger levels. There were nine levels of danger zones in the demon world. While one being the level with the least danger and nine being the level with the highest danger level.
For a team with an average strength of B. It was safe to explore levels one to four. Level one could even be explored by E-ranked humans. That means a powerless human with weapons like guns and swords could explore the level one region of the dungeon.
Level one is also the region on the edge of the demon world. The large outer ring-like area in the periphery of the demon world. It is also where the safe zones are situated.
And now, Alex and his teammates were inside one such safe zone connected to the Nova city portal. This safe zone was a city made by the Alliance inside the dungeon to facilitate dungeon exploration.
After exiting the portal, they exited the Department of Dungeon Management(DoDM) building inside the dungeon. Like the building on earth, the DoDM building was also structured in a hexagonal pattern.
The moment they stepped outside the building, what greeted them was awe-inspiring scenery. Unlike the dead and decaying world Alex expected, the demon world was lively.
It was a bustling and prosperous city surrounded by large walls. Just outside the city walls, he could see the endless landmass spanning across the horizon.
The Demon world was known for its huge landmass and extreme conditions. But in the level one region, it felt like any normal place on earth.
"Alex will take the role of support and Tara and I will be the vanguard. This training session is conducted to increase the battling efficiency of the group. Tara as the new member, you should try to learn as much as you can. Real-life experience always beats the knowledge you gain from books, especially for combat training."
Thomas made sure to explain the roles they will be taking during the training session. It was already concluded that having specialized roles will enhance the combat power of the teams. So, they followed the general trend as it is.
Due to the vastly different abilities, humans could have. It was a safer option to have specific roles for each team member. After all, you could assume that a man with fire-type abilities will be better at attacking than defending. And a strength type will be better at close combat than a healing type superhuman.
"Yes sir, I have the wind-related ability and I also have great manoeuvrability and close combat skills. It is my pleasure to train with you, sir." Tara said in excitement.
"Take it slow, don't get too excited. We will slowly move from one level to another. Try to adjust to the environment as fast as you can."
"YES! SIR!"
"Tune down your enthusiasm, Tara, Sigh!" Holding his palm over his head, Thomas sighed.
"YES! SIR!" Tara replied without any change in her tone.
Alex who saw this chuckled. Usually, it was Thomas who was overly enthusiastic. Now, the newbie took over his role and Thomas became a quiet and serious senior. It was nice to see that.
Alex felt like a fly on the wall being totally ignored by the comical duo. Yet he felt it wasn't that bad. Talking to people was already exhausting and it could only get worse while interacting with an overly enthusiastic junior.
It didn't take long for them to find lodging in Alliance city. They decided to leave the safe zone after getting the tools they needed.
Shopping in the city was easy. There were malls designed to cater to the people who were exploring the dungeon and it had anything from table salts to machine guns.
Alex spent his money wisely and bought food reserves that he will be taking him. He felt the harsh demon would be a challenge, once they exited the safe zone. Even though they were only exploring the low-level regions. The harsh climate and environment will make it harder for them to find food.
Foraging for food was always an option when exploring a dungeon. But it was better to eat high-density packed food than possible diarrhoea-inducing foraged food.
Any form of weakness spelt death inside a dungeon. Much less being sick.
And a one-week trip did not have that high a requirement for food. So, it was better to be safe than sorry.
Like Alex, Tara and Thomas also bought food. But they also bought much more things from inside the dungeon.
Alex, who prepared them early, before entering the dungeon felt superior, seeing his teammates pay a king's ransom for cheap materials inside the dungeon.
After that, they were ready to explore.
