Chapter 16 – Crisis
"Guardians! Use your shields to block the spells and arrows!"
Crystal's panicked voice resounded throughout the forest. Behind her army were the dozens of corpses of his soldiers who couldn't dodged the attacks from the golems chasing behind them.
"Damn it! Of all golems, why does it have to be moonlight golems?" Crystal cursed inside.
She had read it in the library before. The scariest and fearsome type of golems that existed since ancient times. The moonlight golems who were said to be invincible. They have powerful regenerative ability. It was especially the case during the night where the moon cascades its light. In addition, the weakest of these golems were comparable to Tier 1 existences in attack power while their defense were that of Tier 2.
"Hays~ What should I do?" Crystal creased her brows. Under the continuous assault of the legion of moonlight golems, only about three hundred soldiers were left on her troops. And all of them, without exceptions were wounded with blood painting their armors.
If not for the fact that all of them were Tier 1, and Tier 1 existences have a resilient body, most of them would've already died due to their wounds. Tritus could've healed them however, after casting numerous times, Tritus lost his consciousness due to the complete depletion of his mana.
Now, Crystal had one of the Tier 2 soldiers carry Tritus as they run towards the forest. Alas! Only Tritus could cast healing spells on her army.
Suddenly, Crystal felt her heart thump. Her instinct started screaming. Without hesitation, she turned her head at his soldiers and shouted with gritted teeth, "Activate the Black Turtle Battle Array!"
Instantly, a huge apparition of a black turtle appeared and enveloped the retreating army.
And true to her premonition, countless arrows and spells were fired from the chasing legion of golems. This time, the scale was much larger.
The arrows and spells landed upon the turtle shell. They emitted sharp clanking sounds as they were repelled.
"Maintain the array and run with all your might to the platform!" Crystal said. She felt fortunate, she was able to command her soldiers in time. However, worry started to surface on her face.
The Black Turtle Battle Array was a battle formation that could only be used as the last resort. Once the array was activated, it would suck the vitality of the users in exchange for stronger defense. If the users were Tier 1, their defense would improve by a Tier. Meaning, all the soldiers would have Tier 2 level in defense.
However, in exchange for such power, they would only last for three to five minutes. After such time, they would all lose their mobility.
The only good thing was that, up ahead, inside the forest stood a large gate. Crystal was hoping that it was the gateway leading towards the exit. It was their last resort to fight for their survival. From her estimate, they would exactly need three minutes to reach the gateway.
'I should stall time for the army to flee to the gate.' Crystal thought. They were in crisis. Once the enemy slowed down the fleeing troops, they would certainly not reach the platform before the array deactivated and they wouldn't be able to move.
Crystal mustered all her courage and said, "Flee as fast as possible!"
She turned around and face the army of golems. As she stared at it, Crystal realized that some of the golems were disassembling their bodies and merging it into a certain golem. Suddenly, a brilliant glow started to emanate from those parts and before long… a massive and colossal moonlight golem was formed.
Crystal was stupefied. However, her stupefaction didn't last long. She saw the uprooting some trees and throwing it towards their direction.
"No! I can't allow this!" Crystal exclaimed as her figure shoots into the air. She took out a vial containing red liquid from her pocket. Then she drank all the contains in one gulp.
Instantly, a burst of berserk aura gushed out from her body. Veins started popping out from her skin. She raised her sword and poured some mana into it. With a firm expression, she swung her blade, "Divine punishment!"
A brilliant red beam shoot towards the trees thrown by the giant, turning it into pieces. Her attack continued flying before colliding with the enemies and cleaving some moonlight golems on the ground.
Roar!
The giant golem let out a savage howl. It assumed a punching stance and in a smooth transition, it punched towards Crystal. Its huge fist caused the wind to howl.
"Stance of the Radiant God. First Move! Endless Light!" Crystal shouted as she held the sword with both of her hand.
Blinding white light covered the sword as Crystal poured her mana without holding back. Then she brandished it, slashing towards the giant and the army of moonlight golems.
Suddenly, a gigantic column of sword wave appeared on the forest. It whistled into the air before it struck the giant golem's fist.
Boom!
A deafening explosion echoed in the battlefield; everyone lost their sense of hearing. Even momentarily losing their vision.
Whoosh…
The place gradually calmed down. With her pale face, Crystal hovered in the air. She was surrounded by the slowly dissipating red aura. Her hand limply lay to her side, still tightly gripping the sword.
Softly, cracking sound was heard on her hand. Without shifting her gaze, Crystal muttered, "This is the end I guess."
Then her sword shattered into pieces. She started falling into the ground as her blurring vision told her the end of her journey. As she fell, the dust was cleared away and her gaze landed upon the thousands of decapitated moonlight golems, including the giant.
Now, the debris on the ground were rushing towards their bodies and were repairing it in an incredibly fast speed, the most troublesome property of the moonlight golems.
Crystal closed her eyes in disappointment, but before she completely lost consciousness, she could somehow feel a pair of masculine arms wrapping around her.
