"NO!" I had screamed and flung my hand up at the same time that Boberre seemed to yell the same word. Neither of us had any way to defend ourselves against this attack. I was just a human and I didn't think that Boberre had any magic at all. If he did, then it wasn't much.
I just held my hand in front of my face and squeezed my eyes shut once again. I didn't want to see the moment that the fireball hit me. That would not be a pleasant experience. It was bad enough that I would feel it when it happened.
I could feel it already. It was getting closer to the palm of my hand. I knew this because I could feel the warmth already spreading across my body and there was a point of heat right in the center of my palm. The fire would hit me in just a moment.
But it didn't.
I just continued to stand there with my hand out, the warmth right there in front of me, but there was no pain and no burning.
"Huh?" I opened my eyes and finally looked at what was happening.
