Chapter 21: Giving the Cure

**BRIAR'S POV**

I was beyond confused the moment I walked into the Mercer house. I had not expected that there would be a wolf that came with them. Most wolves who would get them the cure would either not know that only a wolf would be able to administer it, or they wouldn't care.

In truth, there were a lot of people in the city who would procure the needed potion for the humans and send them on their merry way because they would find it funny that they couldn't cure the person that they needed to. They would end up laughing about it for months on end.

This man, though, had come with the father and son who had needed this valuable and hard to obtain potion. He had come to administer it so that these people would be able to save their daughter. Was he really a good man? Could he truly be trusted? I sincerely hoped so.

I had known all along that the potion was only able to be used by a wolf. I was well aware of its functioning ability and what the potion was truly meant to do. It hadn't been crafted to heal humans when the first alchemists had started making it centuries ago. It was completely by chance that the Flourish potion was discovered to help with the withering flu.

The withering flu wasn't just a disease for the humans either. It affected the wolves and any of the other beast men. In truth, the only ones that it didn't seem to affect were the vampires and the fairies. They were the only two species on this planet that were wholly immune to the disease. And for humans it was usually very rare. Actually the fact that two people in this village contracted the disease within a year was a real shock to me.

As a group we all went up the stairs to the girl's room. Mercer, his wife, and Boberre were ahead of me. The boy and younger daughter were behind me. When we got to the room, the boy and girl waited by the door outside and looked inside apprehensively.

Mercer and his wife went to the left side of the bed and I went straight to the right side of the girl's bed next to her head. Boberre was still standing near the door and looking at the child as she slept on.

There was something off about the way that he was just standing there. I did not like it one bit at all. I was starting to get nervous and was going to out myself as a wolf since he had been standing there so long, but after another moment, he finally moved closer to Addie's side.

"Let us administer this potion so that this lovely young lady is not left in a state of limbo like this for much longer."

With that, Boberre took a vial of a swirling potion out of an inside pocket. The potion was a bright shining blue and a glimmering green, the two colors were swirling and twisting around the vial but they were not mixing together. This was indeed a flourish potion. I had not seen one in many, many years.

"I am going to pour this into her mouth." Boberre told the worried parents as he leaned in closer to the girl.

"Can I hold her hand while she is given the potion?" Helen asked worriedly.

"Yes, Helen, you can." I nodded and told her that it would indeed be fine. I had a feeling that Boberre didn't know whether she could or not.

With that, Helen pulled back the blanket that was tucked securely around the girl's body and grabbed her hand. I could see the white mark on her wrist as she held it close to her face. Those marks were intriguing, and I wanted to get to know more about them.

At that moment, Boberre slowly opened Addie's mouth, pulled the stopper from the vial, and poured the potion into her mouth. The luminescence of the blue and green could still be seen as they swirled inside of her. The light shone through the skin of her cheeks, down her throat, and even shone through the white cloth of her nightgown.

I had been expecting all of that. The green and the blue would shine throughout her entire body as it took effect. What I did not expect was that when the potion swirled down her arms the two runic marks on Addie's wrists lit up like there was a flame behind them. That was odd and unique.

This meant something even more than I expected. Had I known that this was possible I might not have told Mercer to get the potion. Then again, this girl was going to be interesting to get to know.

The runes only lit up for a moment, like every other part of her body as the potion spread through her and worked its magic. I could see that, aside from the magical blue and green, there was some color coming back to her face and arms. The cure was working.

After a few moments, there was a slight movement to her fingers as her hands twitched just a little. I watched as the girl's face scrunched up tightly and she moaned softly. When her face relaxed again, her eyes fluttered open.

"Mom? Dad?"
