“What?” Jaecar narrowed his eyes.
“You’re sneaky.” He remembered Elora’s words about there being nothing Jaecar wouldn’t do for him.
“Sneaky how?”
“Cat sneaky.”
Jaecar grinned. “Babe, I am a cat.”
“I know, but I believed I was smarter than to fall for your tricks.”
The grin died. “I haven’t tricked you.”
Eli took a deep breath and prepared himself for the onslaught of emotions as he took a step away from the wall. He walked closer and closer to the sofa, doing his best to block Jaecar out of his mind. “You’re trying to make me trust you.”
“You cantrust me.”
Eli wanted to, deep down in his soul he believed he could, but the voice in his head kept telling him not to.
