Chapter 16: Chapter Fourteen

Bryan walked to the shop, whistling a tune when he saw her. The world tilted, it couldn’t have been her.

“ Rhoda?” he asked, walking closer to her, trying his best to believe it wasn’t her, but it was, he knew it, but he didn’t want it to be.

Dear God, he thought.

“ In truth.” she said, a light laugh escaping her lips, he wasn’t deceived. He saw the calculated glint he saw in her eyes, he could see after all this time, the hardness of her expression, that ran bone deep. No, he wasn’t deceived.

“ what are you doing here?”

“ Visiting.” she replied in that light manner. “ Bryan, i thought… i thought it was necessary to talk.”

He looked skyward and prayed for patience.

“ Talk about what? About what really? How did you even know where to find me?”

“ I thought you’d be happy to see me.” she said, going for a pout. And he could see it, the manipulative way she went about things. And he questioned within, how he ever even missed it.
