That question that causes fear, but which, if it had not existed, doubt would never have given rise to the need for an answer.
While the great philosophers of history have said that the answers lie within oneself; for a reader like Luz the answers lie in the words that the throat of the wind consumes and degrades. All for your mind to let in through your nostrils.
Luz's soul clings to the meaning these words take on the fear coiled like a tick around Alexis's neck.
The same fear that does not detach the head from the body.
The drops covered the rings on Alexis' neck. These were the dead cells of the wind, who sought to regenerate themselves with a passion that trembled with fear. It trembled like the tightrope over which the dead cells that had not yet regenerated would make their somersault.
The goal was to fall into one of the rings, but those on Alexis' neck already filled all the available spaces.
The only thing left for the dead cells to do was to invade Luz's neck. The problem was that all of her was frozen. As a collateral effect, the exasperated scream of Luz's mother was not long in coming. Her tears blurred her vision as she touched it and felt a statue of ice. There was no passion in her that trembled, as is the case with almost all mothers, she possessed a passion that paralyzed.
Luz's mother's fears could immobilize or make flow the only thing in her daughter that was still warm: the survival instinct.
A survival instinct induced by curiosity that was harbored like an oil that separates impossible dreams from goals. This because both together are a nest of pain that reverberates like boiling water when she hears her mother's words. When she hears her words in Alexis' voice:
"You have to wake up or your whole family is going to end up frozen. Your mother must be asleep.....
I don't know what else to tell you, I've already told you so many things that I don't know if you'll ever forgive me... I feel like you hate me..."
The points of the self-embrace now, little by little, ignite in a silver spark that eats away at each of the flames they once controlled. All that remains of the first flame that has fallen incinerated turns out to be a kind of gray ice. I suppose the same thing will happen to the rest of the flames that are to be incinerated.
I imagine that this must be the effect of this place of eternal winter. Its power must be something recent or prior to my endeavor to discover the world on my own.
This ice that does not settle for one, no, for one they all pay. A whole family frozen, I hope I don't have to scratch the face of any snow queen, if there is one.
Luz's mother has fallen asleep on her daughter's belly. The sleeping pills were her own tears with a few drops of the strange power that emanates from this snow.
Marisa has gone to look for some kind of object that, according to her, will wake Luz up in no time, literally.
Alexis carried Luz to Marisa's room. The only place in her house (the one at that time) where there was enough heat to keep Luz's heart beating. Of course this only works because Luz doesn't want to die, not yet.
Both alone (the mother is asleep) and the wind is not one to miss opportunities. That's why I'm not surprised that my luck with the flames hasn't lasted too long. If the wind gets in the way of any of your business, rest assured that whatever it is you're planning, you won't have much time left.
Maybe Alexis was suspicious of the reality around him and Luz. Of that little time. However, it is not Luz's little time. Alexis already knows that ice always brings little time.
Maybe that's why they say that lies have short legs; because there is little road that animal instinct travels when it is based on impossible dreams. When the survival instinct goes against the animal instinct.
Luz's heart was struggling to carry the force of its beating straight to her brain and activate her mind. However, her heartbeat had more reach than her mind thought.
His heartbeat described a melody that could cross the threshold of Alexis' mind. A melody that made Alexis' soul take on the shape and behavior of a wild wave. A melody that lifted the dead cells that were lodged in Alexis' neck. It introduced them to his mind, which was feeling the terrible magic of the cold that enveloped Luz.
He was going to freeze and needed a shiver to break the ice. A passion before there was too much ice built up. And it was that Luz's melody knew when it can reach the high-pitched tones inside.
Alexis' soul coiled in his mind. The rest of her body was dead.
Out of nowhere, her knees fell to the floor and her hands impacted against Luz's breasts. Although the situation was beyond him, he couldn't move a muscle that wasn't from the neck up.
Both hands could touch the aureoles and the nipple of Luz's breasts.
That melodic wave (which at that moment was her soul) cried out for the meaning of the dead cells she was made of; to be taken to the beyond, towards a life where impossible dreams do not exist.
If impossible dreams disappear, the strange passionate phenomenon of La garganta del viento will not exist either.
Alexis knew what Luz and he himself desired, but he could not kiss her on the mouth. To tell the truth, all of her was frozen. He could not kiss her neck, only the inside remained.
And what was the one thing inside Luz that he could always detect?
Alexis thought that for both of them a single kiss between the two of them, knowing what they knew about each other, knowing each other as they knew each other... surely a kiss was the impossible dream.
These kinds of dreams have little time to come true.
Could it be a coincidence that the kisses don't last long either?
Or at least not if you want to breathe.
Kisses last so little for forbidden loves. Time flies and never returns, just like the wind that blows. Everyone when it comes to these is so ephemeral.
Could it be that the wind once had a forbidden love?
Why so much obsession with impossible dreams?
I was something unthinkable for Alexis's soul, he hated me since he knew I was in Luz's head.
It was impossible for him to make me pay for infecting the mind of the only girl who has tried to love him. The only being who didn't cling to his sexy and angelic face in equal parts: Luz.
And for Luz, will Alexis be able to prove to love our little time only with a kiss?
How will Alexis give a kiss to an abstract being like me...that's why this chapter is short and a point of self-embracing has remained in the title of this chapter.
