Chapter 48: Breakfast (2)

Imani instantly furrowed her brows after she kept a spoon of rice in her mouth and lowered her head as she turned her face away from Lucas who was staring at her. Her taste buds were being violently attacked by the oversalted food and she had an overwhelming urge to spit it out.

"What's wrong?" he asked with a look of concern on his face and she rapidly shook her head as she pressed a hand to her mouth. "Is the food bad?"

"Bad? No, no. It's um... It's edible," she replied as she cleared her throat, removing a hand from her mouth, and plastered a smile on her face. "Really edible. Hmm." She reached for the bottle of water Lucas had placed next to her plate and quickly unscrewed the cap before taking a huge gulp of water.

She didn't have the heart to tell him that it was way too salty because he had put effort into making it for the both of them.
