Dan had been in a hurry to leave because he had to go and meet the Urchin, who Zach had texted to inform him was threatening to create a scene if she didn't see Dan that night.

She seemed to have believed that Dan had taken off and abandoned her, so she was refusing to do anything until she saw Dan.

After finding a convenient spot to change into his hippie costume, he was now seated in a cab on his way to see the Urchin.

Zach had taken Bella to Dan's secret cabin, which he had bought under one of his fake identities, to get away from the spotlight whenever it was becoming too much.

He didn't mind that the location was an hour's drive from the city. It gave the sort of privacy he needed away from the watchful eyes of the press, and he could always drive back into the city if something that required his urgent attention came up.
