Every wand is individually crafted by hand in a traditional process that takes significant time and effort on the part of the wand maker. Wands are always crafted from natural materials. Wands are never mass produced from such artificial mundane materials as plastics or resins. Finally, wands are never painted, covered in a plastic lacquer or varnish. The labor-intense process using often expensive natural materials is obviously reflected in the price of a good hand-crafted wand. However, such a wand should last a lifetime and may even be passed down from generation to generation.
It takes years of study and apprenticeship to become a journeyman or master wand maker. The full scope of crafting a magic wand quite rightly belongs in a wand crafting class rather than this class in wand lore. Nevertheless, it is important for every witch and wizard to understand the basics of the process of making of a magic wand.
