"I hate to say this but I feel sorry for Sir Kingsley. I mean, I just feel sorry for him because he's been sexually harassed and was forced into something that he had no interest in when he shouldn't be." Whispered Kim while Layla was calling their names one by one to check the attendance.
Liv scoffed and shook her head. "You won't feel sorry for him if you knew how terrible he is to everyone." She reminisced the memories of how bitter his words were when she and Layla went to the library.
Kim sadly smiled. "Everyone knows that he is an unusual man but he never gave off creepy vibes. He just talks and acts like a very mighty cold-hearted king but that doesn't mean that he deserved being sexually harassed by that, Liv."
Liv bit her lip but remains to advocate for what she believed in. "But someone made him feel what it's like to be treated like a toy that can be played around with and I think he deserves that at least. He deserves the feeling of being messed up in the head."
Kim could feel that something might have happened to her, causing her to feel like she has something against him and why she was talking like that. But she didn't ask instead she just kind of protected Sir Kingsley despite his attitude.
"But it doesn't have to be that way. That's a different kind of toy we're talking about here, Liv. Mrs. Vivian thought that she could get him and seduce him like he's a...whore or something and that's not his weakness it's more like his fear. Everybody is afraid of being..uh..raped, everybody fears that just like we fear struggle." She insisted, awkwardly saying words that were unfamiliar to her tongue. "Thankfully, nothing extreme has happened to him because that would only leave him traumatized and his attitude would get worse."
Liv sighed in defeat and guilt, ignoring that Kim used words that she never used before but if it wasn't for the seriousness and if it was any other situation, she'll no doubt be shocked and tease her about it.
"Yeah, I know. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have spoken that way but..." Liv stopped talking when she realized that someone entered the room and everybody fell silent. Her eyes widened and she wanted to disappear at that very moment.
Liv looked at Kim and they communicated through their eyes. She sighed in great relief when she realized once again that they were whispering the whole time and he must have only entered the room so it's impossible that he might have heard their conversation.
All of them stood up and greeted him while bowing. Sir Kingsley wanted to focus on his first day of teaching in the school but all of that disappeared when he noticed once again how Layla looked at him. They were both standing in front of the class while the rest were still awkwardly bowing 90 degrees because they'll only be allowed to sit when the teacher or the class president says so.
The fact that everyone in the room was gossiping about their new history teacher made the situation even more tense and awkward. While Layla heard the two talking, specifically, Liv and Kim because they're sitting in front of the class, her mind changed a bit. Kim managed to make her brain structure change the way she felt about him. She still hated him but she's going to try not to test his patience because unlike him, she's kind and won't use that fear against him. It's not technically his weakness but he's still afraid of it and he's obviously not feeling well.
Her eyes feared him too but they mostly sparkled of kindness and gentleness and that made Sir Kingsley stare at her eyes, remaining inscrutable but slightly amused by what her eyes were telling him.
He felt the need to tell her that pity won't do her good but he wanted to see what will happen if he doesn't acknowledge it at all.
"G-Good afternoon, Sir Kingsley." She greeted and bowed to him, breaking the eye contact.
He examined her one last time to check if his words still bothered her but she didn't give off anything other than gentleness and kindness. His lips dared to smile a bit because it somehow calmed him knowing that she was fine but he spoke for everyone to hear and finally they all sat down, trying not to make any noise at all.
Layla walked back to her seat but was stopped by him. "Layla, where do you sit?" He suddenly asked while setting up his things on the teacher's table.
"We all sit in a particular order and because I am the class president I sat at the back to see everyone's action rather than just focusing on the learning." She explained, trying not to stutter again and successfully doing so.
Sir Kingsley took a deep breath, placed his last pen on his desk before placing his hands on the table, widely spread arms while looking at her intimidatingly with one of his brows raised. "Explain it further because I can't seem to understand the purpose of this order."
"Well, the order is invented so the classroom can remain proper. The officers in a class are scattered around so everyone can see whether the class stays decent. Usually, the only ones who have a sitting arrangement are the officers and the rest can be arranged by the teachers in each class or by the class president. The class president may also choose 2 officers to sit next to them in case of something or to help them see the whole classroom." She explained that even though she has a feeling that he already knows that.
But she was wrong, Sir Kingsley might know the orders but he was indeed clueless about the purpose of it. He waited until he gets into section one so Layla can explain it to him. He wanted no ones explanation but hers.
"So you're sitting exactly at the back in the middle to watch your classmates?" Layla nodded in confirmation.
"Can you give me a list of all the students here and if that student is an officer then put that information beside their name."
Layla nodded and Kim immediately gave her the paper that he's looking for and Layla thanked her before handing it to him.
His eyes scanned the paper and he's pleased with what he's seeing because it even includes the seating arrangement of the officers. He spotted Layla's name in the middle of two other offices which made him frown.
"I'm changing the order because I hate it." He announced and all of them looked at him as if he was crazy because that's an order of the whole school and it only stays that way to remain the rules around the classroom. It was a very strict and sacred order so no one ruins that arrangement. Everyone follows it until Sir Kingsley decided to change it.
Layla didn't speak and when Kim wanted to speak to defend the rules of the school, she gestured not to do it and wait for an explanation which made all of them very silent.
"I hate it and why do you feel the need to chose 2 officers to sit beside you? Can't you do your obligations alone?" He questions her.
Layla sighed. "I can but I just can't disobey the order."
"Well now, all of us are changing that. First of all, even though you are the class president it's not your obligation to watch your classmates like your life depends on it. Your life depends on your grades and how well you do in real-life problems. Even if your classmates may possibly cheat while they're taking a test, that's not entirely your problem. In my class, your only problem is your grades and how well you do under pressure from me. Second of all, do not act as if you're nannies of your classmates because you're officers, not nannies. Third of all, the one who invented this must be out of their mind or lazy as hell. It's the teacher's job to watch over the whole class. This is just humiliating and a shame. This is so messed up."
All of them were shocked but eventually, they agreed since they have no choice anyway.
"Oh, and do not worry about reporting me to the higher authorities of this school because I will be reporting myself to them." He smiled sarcastically and mockingly at all of them then he looked at Layla again.
"You may now sit in the front, Layla."
