Chapter 66: Don't

Ivy had only gotten involved with Adrian because she was curious why she couldn't hear him. Now she knew. There was no point continuing whatever semblance of acquaintanceship they had now that she had her answers and had been hurt in the process.

That didn't prevent her from wishing things had turned out differently. She really did feel so bad for him.

"Adrian, I—"

"Don't," he said in a hard voice. "Just don't. I should have known better than to think you were different. She said so herself; you remind her of the way she was when she was younger. If you don't want to go down the same path you'd better stay away from me. Save your pity."

Ivy didn't know how to respond to that because he was right. It was better that they stayed away from each other. And considering how much he had been hurt by another one of her kind he probably didn't want anything to do with her either.
