Chapter 2: A New Life

She sat upright, her green eyes darting around like a predator looking for prey. Her pupils differed from a human's as they were narrowed into slits.

She relaxed and looked around the room, taking in black curtains with golden trimmings covering the windows.

She climbed out of bed, and walked to the door, but before she could pull the handle, it swung open and four people ran in.

Unlike before where they just appeared, she saw them, she couldn't make out every detail, but she could see them when they moved at high speeds.

They stopped a few feet a way, looking at her with differing expressions, though most happy.

Cassandra appeared behind her, pulling her into a hug, but she couldn't see how she moved.

'She's strong, and really fast.' She could feel the strength beneath Cassandra's slim yet perfect figure.

Alexander walked forward and rubbed his nose with a slightly embarrassed look.

"I tried to help, but they voted against me so..." His voice trailed off as he looked away with a look like it wasn't his business.

Elizabeth smirked and walked forward, patting her on the shoulder.

"Well, you're name is now Eliane, you can't change it even if you tried." She shook her head while giving the newly named Eliane a look of pity.

"We hope you like it, it took a few hours to decide on." Cassandra murmured into Eliane's hair.

"Wait, how long did I sleep?" Eliane looked around for a clock, yet somehow she could tell it was night time.

"You slept about twenty hours, give or take, so how do you feel?" Daniel asked from the side, and even though he was a couple feet away and his voice came out lower than a whisper, she could hear him as if he spoke into her ear.

"I don't feel to different, I feel fine really." She took a breath and took in a vareity of new smells she hadn't smelt before.

'They smell nice, not like food, but it's a pleasant smell.' She allowed Cassandra to pull her out the room however as she left the room she covered her eyes, a snarl erupting from her throat.

The light pierced her eyes while a bunch of different sounds nearly gave her a headache.

"Learn to control your sensory perception or you'll overload and be a very miserable vampire." Alexander's voice said softly and she somehow knew how to do it.

The piercing glare of the lights and the thunderous sounds receded and she uncovered her eyes.

'The light is still bright, however it's manageable.' She looked around and a saw a long corridor and a flight of steps leading to a floor below.

"First one to reach is the winner." Without looking she could tell the voice belonged to Elizabeth.

Even in a crowd, she could probably pick her out by her voice, however that was just a feeling.

The four vampires blurred into motion, vanishing into thin air it would seem to a human, as they ran down the stairs.

'Should I run as fast as I can?' She took a step and then another as she seemingly disappeared.

*Thud*

There was a muffled thud and she reappeared, rolling down the stairs.

Before she fell five steps, she pushed off from the ground and flipped in the air, landing on the bottom step perfectly.

She looked around for the others and found they were no where in sight. She was about to go looking for them when she remembered she could track the scents.

Taking a breath, she moved with vampiric speed, out the front door and into the woods on the side.

The wind whistled gently as she ran following the trail they left behind.

The scents scattered as they seemed to split up, one vampire, Daniel it seemed to be from the scent leapt to the trees and jumped from branch to branch.

The others seemed to have run in a straight line as she followed the scents.

Five minutes later and a few miles away, she stopped as the trees gradually thinned and a city became visible through the treeline.

She hesitated for a moment before following continuing forwards.

She ran through the trees on the roadside as cars gradually appeared, their lights shining brightly in the night.

She slowed herself and walked at a human's pace into the city as there were no trees to cover her just in case.

Her nose took in a ton of new smells, smoke, food, and of course humans. Unlike most movies she had seen where new vampire would attack humans, she was relatively fine.

There was the instinct goading her to act, to Hunt a few, to gulp their blood, but she pushed it down.

She slipped into an alley, and was slightly puzzled as the scents went upwards at a wall.

'Did they fly or something, maybe we can fly.' She looked around and then concentrated.

'It doesn't seem like I can fly.' She was slightly disappointed as she looked up and saw a fire escape a fifteen feet above her.

She crouched and then leapt, easily catching the side of the fire escape and pulling herself over in a smooth motion.

'Vampires seem to have perfect coordination on top of speed and strength.' She punched at the wall with all her strength and a cracking noise rang out.

Bricks that were a a couple inches thick shattered and a five foot hole appeared as she gasped in shock.

A slight pain ran through her arms and she withdrew them quickly. Blood ran from her knuckles, however her bones seemed to be undamaged.

She looked at the wound in wonder, because it stopped bleeding quickly and the flesh started to draw together.

Soon after, only blood was left on her hand as she stood there with an amazed look.

'Okay enough experimenting, let's go find them.' She ran up the fire escape and walked out onto the roof, feeling the chilly air against her skin.

The air was chilly, however she didn't feel cold, she felt like it were normal, so she shrugged and looked for the trail.

She was quite happy as she knew she was close, but then that happiness vanished into thin air.

The trail lead across open air and onto a balcony, nearly forty feet away.

Looking down were cars driving slowly in traffic, a couple stories down.

'Jumping forty feet across at nearly a hundred feet up, and jumping fifteen feet upwards are two completely different things!'

She wanted to complain, but only she stood on the rooftop. Steeling herself, she ran and full speed and launched herself over the gap.

She panicked for a second, then her pupils which had returned to normal, changed to slits.

The panicky feeling faded and what was left was a cool rational feeling. She stretched her hand and caught the railing, her hand imprinting a hand print into the metal as she pulled herself over and pushed the sliding door open.

Inside were a vast amount of scents, some humans, but she could pick out several vampires, including the few she was familiar with.

She walked through the room and opened the door. She was shocked, on the other side were a bunch of flashing lights, however what shocked her was in the darkness that followed, her eyes could see clearly, and she saw several vampires feeding on humans.

She saw a door to the side and went through it, and found Alexander and the rest on a couch, lounging like kings as they waited.

She took a seat on an empty couch and looked at several paintings on the wall that could probably fetch a fortune.

"This is a friend's place, quite the place isn't it?" Daniel said with a smile, his fangs reflecting light as he sat there with an annoyed expression.

"Okay, can I Feed now? You were so slow Eliane!" He stood up and strode to a door on the side and knocked on it.

He blurred and reappeared back in his seat as the door opened. Five humans, and a vampire walked in behind them and closed the door.

"I greet you Exalted Ones." He bowed and stepped to the side.

Cassandra nodded and turned to Eliane. "We don't have mind control, so unless the other party knows what you are, I suggest you just drain them dry."

Eliane blinked then nodded as the appeared besides the human they chose.

She felt her fangs extending and she bit down before the human woman could say anything.

Warm blood filled her mouth, however unlike before, it made everything she tasted as a human seem dull or bitter in comparison.

Blood trickled down the corner of her mouth as she drove her fangs deeper. Her iris became blood red, and along with her slitted pupils, she seemed like a predator.

Her hearing picked up that her preys heartbeat had grown fainter and was on the verge of stopping.

It beat a few times more before it stopped. She leaned back and her fangs slid out of her neck. She licked the blood thstbtrickled down her lips as the body fell to the floor.

Alexander stepped over another body that he dropped and sat on the couch.

"We just feed where ever because some humans know of our existence, if they find the bodies then they find the bodies, I don't really care." He shrugged and sat there looking like a lazy man.

He snapped his fingers and and stood up.

"Take care of the corpses." He walked to a door on the side and slid it open.

Cold wind blew in as he stepped out onto the balcony, and jumped to the railing in an easy manner.

"Its just a few feet down, do try to keep up my dear daughter." He stepped into open air and fell.

Cassandra and Elizabeth followed while Daniel patted her head.

"It's easy, just do it, don't think to much." And with that he was gone.

She took a breath before leaping to the railing and looked down fifty, maybe sixty feet? She took a deep breath and jumped.

---

The vampire in the room where they fed, took several minutes to bring the corpses down and placed them in the trunk of a car in a parking garage.

He heard footsteps and turned, then a muffled gunshot rang out in the night. He staggered back, holding his chest as blood ran through his fingers.

His fangs slid out as his eyes shone with a vicious look. He was about to pounce when a dart whistled through the air and stabbed through his heart.

He staggered backwards and collapsed against the car. His appearance became paler and paler as his head hung down.

"The vampire is down, check the car." A voice rang out and several people ran forward and looked in the trunk.

"Five bodies, all drained of blood." Some sighed as they heard the report and ground their teeth in anger.

"A vampire normally feeds on one human when they Hunt, yet there are five bodies, counting him, there should be four others at the least." A woman dressed in black with a gun in hand walked forward and kicked the vampire's corpse.

"Damn vampires should just die already." Another man said as he checked the vampire's face.

The woman signalled to two men and walked back to a black car and got into the drivers seat.

"Be careful, since one died they will be more careful when they realize it, it would be good to find the, all before they do but they're clever predators, be careful as some might seek revenge."

She stepped on the gas and drove into the night.
