I've… finally… reached it… Dark Guild… headquarters…

[Rewind back to the third night of the exploration]
Tonight, I will definitely catch the culprit. Even if I can't, I'll at least catch Khardin and present him to the Church. Hopefully that will ease some of the pressure off me.
Therefore, I will be personally supervising the extraction of the Holy Spring Water. Khardin, as usual, remains in the dark about my real objective and what will happen to him after I achieve it.

Wait, no! Something's wrong! The way he's looking at me…

Phew. Thank the Goddess! I managed to activate the artifact in time. But this man – no, boy… how come I couldn't sense him?
I have to admit though; this lad has some good reflexes. As soon as his knife cut thin air, he turned around right away.
"So YOU are the Necromancer. I thought that you were suspicious, but I never would have guessed you had this goal in mind. Do you know the price for going against the Church?!" (Olaf)
"Whatever it is, it's probably better than what you'll experience very soon." (Daniel)
"Cocky! Don't even try it. I know you are a weakling, like all others in this shanty of a town." (Olaf)
"Heh. All bark and no action. If you're so high and mighty, then come!" (Daniel)
"As you wish!" (Olaf)
What an idiot! He's clearly even lower level than Khardin, yet he wants to challenge me?
This'll be over in one hit!
*shiver*
Again! That same feeling! This is bad!
*BOOOOOOOOM*
How underhanded! Not only did he try to blow me up initially, he's also got a trench full of corpses!
I'm lucky I activated the artifact again, otherwise I would have been done for!
But now, I'm severely injured. The first use of the artifact requires nothing, but the second use requires 30 levels and most of my HP, leaving me at level 85 and barely 100 health left!
The good thing is that the second use also teleports me two kilometres away from the site where I used it. Otherwise, I would just be chased down again!

I spoke too soon. Seems like this Necromancer knows what he's doing. Right now, over 30 skeletons are chasing me. At first, I thought I would still be able to handle them despite my sorry state.
But when I engaged, they simply cut through my shield! And my armor! In one strike!
These obviously aren't normal skeletons. I should report this to the Church!
But… I really can't go back anymore. Once they get wind of the fact that I failed the mission and information about it was leaked, they'll definitely execute me.
I also don't know who the Necromancer is, or have any general description of his face!
For all I know, they could actually be female!

[Daniel POV]
This is a disaster! Although I'm confident that nothing happened last night, there's still cold, hard evidence that we slept on the same bed!
And today is also when Arin and the others will be coming back. Knowing her, she'll rush into my room straight away. I really shouldn't have given her a copy of my key. I also really need to decode magic arrays in this world.
And look at that! I must have jinxed myself!
"Daniel! I missed you… so… much… sorry! I'll excuse myself…" (Arin)
"W-Wait, Arin! This isn't what you think!" (Daniel)
Crap! My movements have now awakened Catherine. I was hoping to slip out of bed and pretend I came back this morning. Now, that plan is up in smoke.
"Good morning, Catherine." (Daniel)
"Mmh, good morning." (Catherine)
It seems like she's not fully awake yet. I really don't want to be here when she is, so I leave the room quickly. As soon as I do, I hear an embarrassed scream. Yep, not going back there in a while.
Very soon, I catch up to Arin who was waiting in the dining area. The gaze she is sending me seems like she's demanding an explanation.
"Sigh… Arin, that wasn't what you think it is. She just snuck into my bed when I was asleep. I have no idea why I was sleeping with her." (Daniel)
A half-truth and half-lie. While I have no idea why I was sleeping with her, but she did not sneak onto my bed. I invited her. That sounds really bad, especially in front of an angry Arin, so I'm not going to say that out loud. Unless I want to become a eunuch.
"Daniel! Why do you feel it necessary to explain it to me?" (Arin)
"Because you're clearly jealous! Just look at your face!" (Daniel)
Arin's face went red as a tomato when I said that. Maybe I should have said it in a more roundabout way. The way I said it makes it seem like I know she likes me.
'I think Bloody Dumb Idiot would have been able to handle that better than you.' (Ed)
'Shut up! I'm trying, alright? This is the first time a female has gotten jealous over me!' (Daniel)
'Wow… I feel sorry for you.' (Ed)
I almost started crying. Figuratively, obviously. How sad is it when your system, who has no mating capabilities, feels sorry for you about women?!
My face must have obviously betrayed my emotions, because Arin quickly followed up.
"A-Ah, don't cry! I forgive you!" (Arin)
"I wasn't going to cry! And why do I need your forgiveness at all?!" (Daniel)
"Then why did you try to explain it to me?!" (Arin)
"Because I like you!" (Daniel)
Ah, now I've done it. Who would've thought I'd confess like that. This is even worse than having my dog control my body.
"R-Really?" (Arin)
Hmm? I had a small inkling that she might like me, but this is very drastic. Her face looks like it would explode from all the blood gathered there!
"Y-Yeah." (Daniel)
"T-Then should we start dating?" (Arin)
"If you want to." (Daniel)
'Oi Daniel! When did you turn into someone so timid?' (Ed)
'I can't help it! I'm good with interacting with women, but once they confess, things turn very awkward!' (Daniel)
'Then you should at least take the initiative! Grab the upper hand! Dominate them!' (Ed)
'Okay, I'm just going to ignore your last suggestion. Where did you even learn that word from?' (Daniel)
'You!' (Ed)
'… fair point.' (Daniel)
Anyway, Ed's intervention has cleared up the muddy thoughts in my mind. Since I like her, I'm going to date her. There's nothing wrong with it, and it's something I want to do anyway.
Now, before you ask why I'm like this, it's because I've never taken the initiative before. My first wife approached me, and in my second life, I didn't even do anything! I admit that I liked her, but she approached me on her own as well!
Therefore, this is technically my first confession!
"Yes, let's start dating. I'll be in your care, Arin." (Daniel)
My sudden change to a serious demeanour startled Arin a little bit, making her blush even more. I'm starting to think that elves have extra blood flow in their bodies.
"Y-Yes, me too." (Arin)
Sweet! Girlfriend, get!
Also, I can't care less about the trouble that the Church might cause me right now. All I know is that I'm overjoyed, and that I'll try my best to protect Arin as well.

I tried my hand at the classic misunderstanding scene, and it developed into a full-blown confession scene.
This will actually be the last chapter of the day. I've written 10 chapters already.
