Chapter One - How I become a detective.
Looking down at my un clipped fingernails, I sing a happy tune to myself. I begin to spin my chair around and around, my smile growing bigger and bigger. Everyone was looking at me from the corner of their eyes, they always thought that the boss should not have picked me for the job- they thought I was weird and incapable of doing my job.
Even Andy, my own partner thought I was weird. I've been working here for the last week, and he still won't talk to me since I stabbed the man who we were trying to get information from. Hey, he wasn't talking- I was just trying to get information from him. And it worked, so I don't see why he is so angry, seeing as we ended up getting the information we needed.
Andy is a brown-haired, middle aged, man, with green eyes. He's about five to six years older than me. Everyone finds him smart with his suit and all, but to me, he's just as naive as everyone else in this office. And, he's supposed to be one of the best ones on the team I remember the first time I met him
I spot my new brown haired partner staring down at what looked to be a dead victim on the ground. As soon as I walked up to him, he greeted me with those green orbs of his and he had an annoyed expression on his face.
"Angel, could you please come to the office? The boss needs you." I looked over to Dennis, the assistant to the boss, calling me over. She had this happy glint in her eye- something good had happened to her.
I started to stand up from my seat and place my hands in my pockets before starting to hum a small tune to myself that went a bit like this- "No one understood the witch, everyone thought she was evil. But truth be told, she was the hero of the story."
I carry on humming the tune over and over again as I nod my head to the beat, making my way to where Dennis stood.
You having a good day, Dennis?" I hinted while stopping in front of her.
"You noticed, how do you always know what mood I'm in" she looked surprised that I figured out what she was feeling, and you could see the small pout that was forming on her lips.
I smirked, putting my pointer finger on her nose and tutting, "Look in their eyes, it sometimes holds the truth, and even the lies."
Dennis was not attractive, nor was she unattractive. She was on the plump side, but I think that's what gave her, her looks. Her hair went down to her boobs, and her boobs were bigger than watermelons. But, her eyes are the big thing you notice when you look at her, she hides them behind glasses, but I had a chance to look at them when she took them off to clean them. Her eyes gave this foggy feel to it, they were green, yet they had a tint of white in them that made you think you were looking at fog. If she got rid of those glasses, everyone would be memorized by her eyes. Even me- when I first saw them, I didn't think I could look away.
She smiled while I was thinking about how she is my favorite person in this office. She is not as naive as everyone else is. I still remember the first time we met, too...
I walked into the office on the somewhat first day of work, and this woman was standing there waiting for me.
She looked at me with a slight interest, but then she looked down at her clipboard. Looking up, she smiled the brightest smile and said, "You must be the newcomer everyone is talking about, heard you scared Andy and everyone else on your first day, yesterday."
I smiled all the way to my cheeks, murmuring the words I told Andy on my first day, "Truth be told, I'm not very good at lying."
She looked at me with a smile and said, "Ain't everyone these days, there's always proof."
It was not the answer I wanted to hear, but it was the best I ever got. And, every time I ask someone something, they ignore the question completely.
Maybe Dennis and I could be friends, I thought, walking into go meet my boss for the third time.
"Anyways, boss wants to see you, say's it important." I saw her slightly look away from me, as though she was hiding some important infomation in there.
"what's going on, Dennis?" I twirled around her body while making a stop in front of her face. "You know you can't hide anything from me."
"Ah, it's just your new partner is HOT," she starts to ramble on about how sexy he is, and what he looks like. But, I didn't really hear much because the only thing that was going through my mind was the fact that I have a 'new partner?'
"What about my partner, Andy?" I ask while smiling a Cheshire grin. Looking behind her, I see that the boss's door was closed. I couldn't see what he Looked like.
"Oh, Andy." she murmurs, "I didn't hear everything he said, but I did hear, 'He wants a new partner' or something like that to boss." I tilt my head to the side while smiling down at Dennis.
"That's interesting," I slowly start to walk away, turning around and grinning, "thanks for the information... This helps me out a lot!" I felt as though my eyes started to glimmer a little bit. My game is going as planned, but I didn't think it would be going this fast.
I start to hum a small tune that was saying "The nightmare that is under his bed is making him go crazy, but the sad thing is that the nightmare is not the scary thing- but the person who had the nightmare is." I started to skip with my hands in my pockets and my smile almost reached my eyes.
I was in front of the door that said. 'Boss's room, don't come in unless told.' in bold letters. I put my hand on the doorknob and turn it gently, walking inside and humming to the tune of the song. I bow slightly, "Heyo, boss, what do you want?" I look up slightly from the bow and tilt my head to the side, smiling with my eyes closed.
I could hear my boss sigh, and I heard a slightly uncomfortable shift from Andy. I still could not see my new partner, because I was not looking at them, but I did see their feet and they were wearing some kind of Nike shoes.
That's when I remember a quote someone told me back in the day 'Shoes can tell you so much about a person, but not everything.'
The boss coughed slightly, and I got up from my bow and walked over to him with a smile on my face and said "Are you okay, boss? I told you to go to the doctor. Have you?"
Boss was very attractive for a fifty-year-old, but he had cancer. He still has not told anyone, and he has not told me, but I knew- and I remember the day he wanted me to become a detective.
I was walking down the street, Before entering a cafe; I had a hood on to hide my bright orange hair. I saw a seat in the back and for some odd reason, I was not in the mood to hum that day so all I did was smile and skip to my seat.
A teenager walks up to me with a pad in her hand and the penslightly close to it in, the other hand hovered above the pad. Her blue eyes pierced through her pink hair that was kinda hiding her eye. She had a fake smile and said, "Welcome to Icey cafe, what would you like to order?" Her voice was slightly annoyed, plus, you could see the anger in her eyes.
I smiled and questioned, "Are you okay, miss?"
You could see that she was surprised at that, "A penny for your thoughts?" I grinned, putting down a penny, placing a hand on my chin and smiling.
She didn't hold back, I think she just needed a stranger to throw her problems to.
"Ugh, my boss won't stop hitting my ass. The sad thing is, I'm eighteen and he's, like, twenty-nine. And, I can't say anything because no one is going to believe an eighteen-year-old 'who is just trying to get attention'... It's sad how our world is becoming." I smiled, thinking of our society and how it is so beautiful.
Humming, I mutter, "Why not get revenge, get it on camera and show it to cops or quit." As soon as I said that, you could see this glint in her eye. An evil one, and I knew what she decided.
She smirked, looking down at me, "Thanks, I'll get you coffee- it's on me."
That didn't stop her from grabbing the penny from the counter, and she smiled at it. Looking back at me, you could tell her mood had changed.
Then suddenly, this man comes up to me. He had brown, curly hair that hid his forehead, a small beard with brown and green eyes. His face kinda looked wrinkly, but he still looked young. And he was wearing a clean-cut suit.
He had a gruff voice with a small scar on his cheek, but it shows the history behind it,and I knew it had been there longer than I'd inhabited this planet, than he asked me "How?"
"How, what?" I smiled, my hand still holding my chin up.
You could see the slight smile and the glimmer in his eyes, it was as though he was impressed at the sight of me.
"How did you get that girl to open up to you? I've noticed that she was always seemed angry when I was here. So, I've been trying to figure out why!"
I finally let go of my chin and put my hand on my table and start to tap it as though it was a piano.
"It easy, I'm a stranger she just needed someone to talk to. So, all I did was ask her for a penny for her thoughts." I looked down at my lap, already bored of this conversation.
And a small hum started to go in my mind "Dear monster, what's it like to be dead? What's it like to be alive? What's it like to be everything?"
He pulled out his card and smiled, "If you ever want a job, and you would like to become a detective, then call me." I looked at him and gave him a smile that went to my eyes.
He got up from the seat across from me and started to walk away, the girl came back out with the coffee and smiled gently, "Have a nice day!"
But, I didn't care what she was saying- the only thing that was going through my mind was;
"Wouldn't this be a fun game..."
