The Book of Jonah

The Book of Jonah

The story of Jonah has great theological import. It concerns a disobedient prophet who rejected his divine commission, was cast overboard in a storm and swallowed by a great fish, rescued in a marvelous manner, and returned to his starting point. Now he obeys and goes to Nineveh, the capital of Israel’s ancient enemy. The Ninevites listen to his message of doom and repent immediately. All, from king to lowliest subject, humble themselves in sackcloth and ashes. Seeing their repentance, God does not carry out the punishment planned for them. At this, Jonah complains, angry because the Lord spares them. This fascinating story caricatures a narrow mentality which would see God’s interest extending only to Israel, whereas God is presented as concerned with and merciful to even the inhabitants of Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian empire which brought the Northern Kingdom of Israel to an end and devastated Jerusalem in 701 B.C. The Lord is free to “repent” and change his mind. Jonah seems to realize this possibility and wants no part in it. But the story also conveys something of the ineluctable character of the prophetic calling. The book is replete with irony, wherein much of its humor lies. The name “Jonah” means “dove” in Hebrew, but Jonah’s character is anything but dove-like. Jonah is commanded to go east to Nineveh but flees toward the westernmost possible point, only to be swallowed by a great fish and dumped back at this starting point. The sailors pray to their gods, but Jonah is asleep in the hold. The prophet’s preaching is a minimum message of destruction, while it is the king of Nineveh who calls for repentance and conversion; the instant conversion of the Ninevites is greeted by Jonah with anger and sulking. He reproaches the Lord in words that echo Israel’s traditional praise of his mercy. Jonah is concerned about the loss of the gourd but not about the possible destruction of 120,000 Ninevites. This book is the story of a disobedient, narrow-minded prophet who is angry at the outcome of the sole message he delivers. It is difficult to date but almost certainly is postexilic and may reflect the somewhat narrow, nationalistic reforms of Ezra and Nehemiah. As to genre, it has been classified in various ways, such as parable or satire. The “sign” of Jonah is interpreted in two ways in the New Testament: His experience of three days and nights in the fish is a “type” of the experience of the Son of Man (Mt 12:39–40), and the Ninevites’ reaction to the preaching of Jonah is contrasted with the failure of Jesus’ generation to obey the preaching of one who is “greater than Jonah”

Asbjørn

Asbjørn

Asbjørn is a teen with high end autism spectrum disorder, also known as aspergers. On the morning after his final exam in gymnasium (one of Denmark’s secondary educations), he discovers that the world has changed, and he’s the only one who’s aware of the change. He also discovers something that people of the changed world calls a system. The question now is, how well will he adapt to the new world, and what will he grow up to be. Uploads: This is purely a passion project, so updates happen when I've gotten a chapter written, but I hope to be faster than with my previous story (Genius Cultivator's Path), which was around 1 chapter every month. Every chapter will be at least 1500 words. If you're interested, then you can listen to my spotify playlist as you read, some of the songs will be used as inspiration later on, so maybe you'll be able to guess which songs they're from, or recognize when I've taken inspiration from a song. (I recommend listening to it on shuffle play) https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0inxAmo9FgufYcb3m426Cs?si=c121e57daf974c71 Author Note: I myself have aspergers, so I feel that I at least have the basic knowledge needed to write a story about an autistic person. I don’t really know how different autistic people see the world, so I’ll be drawing a lot on myself for Asbjørn, which might make it seem a bit like a self insert for myself, but that’s purely because I believe that to be the best way for me to write a consistent character. I’m also not that great at things with feelings, especially feelings beside joy, passion, and anger, so you might find the story lacking in that regard, but I’ll still give it my best shot. Just expect that I might use some author magic for things that I’m stuck on, you’ve now been warned. I’m always looking to learn, so be sure to leave feedback, that includes any grammar errors you spot(in a positive way, that means that you can be critical in a constructive way, but don’t be toxic and try to force your opinions into the story). My personal discord server, the story and events can be discussed here https://discord.gg/6jkWtzV3qz Another novel’s discord server, where I was given a channel to brainstorm in, so that might be the best spot to join if you want to contribute with ideas to the story, though I’ll still talk about it on my own server. This novel is called Earth’s Alpha Prime, and I recommend giving it a read, at least the synopsis https://discord.gg/KfAtRUMDwg

There could be. Fanfiction is full of creative and unexpected combinations. If there is one where Tony Stark is a Jormungand fan, it might involve Stark seeing parallels between the power and mystery of Jormungand and some of the technological or super - powered threats he faces in his own world. He could be fascinated by the idea of a giant serpent that encircles the world in Norse mythology and try to draw inspiration from it for his own inventions or strategies.

The Avengers' reactions would be diverse. Iron Man would likely start analyzing Jormungand immediately, trying to find its weak points. Captain America would be thinking about protecting the civilians and formulating a battle plan. Meanwhile, the Hulk could see Jormungand as a new target to smash. And the female Avengers like Scarlet Witch and Black Widow would use their unique skills, either by using magic or their combat and espionage skills to deal with the situation.
