Wrestling with the Alpha (Christmas with the wolves)

Wrestling with the Alpha (Christmas with the wolves)

"S-Save me!" Roxanne ran desperately, pushing her body to its limits as she feared for her life. Her eyes darted across the vast woods, searching for the apparition she had seen before she took to her heels. Then she saw it, the thing which relentlessly pursued her. The shadow resembled something she had never seen before, a man, a beast, she had no idea. The only certainty she had left was the fact that it was after her. "Someone... Someone help me!" She cried. Her voice was lost in the large expanse of dried barks and wilted branches. The snowy field of thorns and the cold winds of winter seemed to swallow her entire being, almost like it choked her. Her breathing became uneven as she panted due to exhaustion, yet she couldn't stop running. Doing so would mean her end. As she dashed through the cold and snowy path, she could hear it getting closer. "Grrrrrrrrrrrr"   The sound sent shivers down her spine. She willed herself with every fiber of her being not to look behind her for the fear of what she might see. She could feel it's gaze on her, she could hear the sound of it's growl. Roxanne could sense her pursuer's nearing proximity as she fled for her life. Many questions raced through her mind, but she didn't have the luxury to answer any of them. The only thing at the forefront of her mind was survival. Fortunately for her, the falling snow had ceased, else she would have been in a much more awry state. She just had to keep her legs moving until she reached the road intersection where she would get help. Yes, help would come! She heard creaking sounds above her, from the branches of the trees behind and beside her.  The monster was pouncing on them, keeping pace with her desperate sprint. She looked around her, but the creature moved too fast for her eyes to clearly capture its movements. It was as though the beast was toying with her, playing a game it knew it would win. ~ Coming to her grandma's in the woods for Christmas after an heated arg

A really scary Christmas campfire story could be about a Christmas tree that came to life in a very wrong way. The tree was decorated as usual, but on Christmas night, it started to move. Its branches reached out like arms, and the ornaments turned into eyes. It chased a family around their house, and they had to fight it off with fire from the fireplace. They finally managed to cut it down and burn it completely, but they could still hear the tree's angry creaking in their dreams.

The idea of ghosts being tied to a place or a tragic event from the past is also quite frightening. In Christmas ghost stories, it could be a spirit that is forever reliving a Christmas - related misfortune, like a child who died on Christmas and now haunts the place where it happened. Their unfulfilled desires and the sense of eternal sadness add to the scariness.

Another scary part is the use of familiar Christmas items in a menacing way. Such as a gingerbread man coming to life and not in a friendly way like in the normal stories, but rather as a vengeful little creature that causes chaos in the house. The juxtaposition of the sweet and innocent image of Christmas with horror is really frightening.

There's a story where a group of friends decide to have a Christmas party in an old, supposedly haunted house. As the night falls on Christmas, strange things start to happen. The lights flicker, and they see the apparition of a woman in a white dress. She moves silently through the rooms, leaving a cold trail. It turns out she was a jilted bride who died on Christmas Day many years ago. Her ghost is angry and starts to target the people in the house, making it a very scary Ghost Christmas Story.

In Llama Arts' Christmas horror stories, the scariest elements are the unexpected twists on the familiar Christmas tropes. Take the evil Santa Claus for instance. Santa is supposed to be a symbol of giving and kindness, but when he's turned into an entity that hands out cursed presents, it completely flips the perception. Additionally, the sense of isolation in the stories, like the family trapped with the haunted Christmas tree or the carolers in the haunted mansion, adds to the horror. It gives a feeling of being alone in the face of the unknown and the malevolent during a time that's supposed to be about togetherness.
