good starts for a story

A mysterious letter arriving at the protagonist's doorstep out of the blue. It could be from an unknown sender with cryptic messages that immediately pique the reader's curiosity.

One good start could be a mysterious statement like 'The door at the end of the corridor was ajar, and a strange light seeped through.' It immediately grabs the reader's attention and makes them wonder what's behind the door. Another option is starting with an interesting character in an unusual situation, for example, 'The old man sat on the bench, his eyes fixed on a spot in the sky as if he was waiting for something that no one else could see.' A third way is to begin with a bit of dialogue that sets the tone, such as '"You can't be serious," she said, her eyes wide with disbelief.'

I'm not entirely sure which specific story in the Book of Mormon starts with 'k'. It could be that there's some confusion or it might be a relatively unknown or misremembered aspect. Think about interesting characters first. What if you start with 'The detective with a limp and a twinkle in his eye entered the crime scene'? You can also draw inspiration from your own experiences. For example, if you had a strange encounter, you could write 'I saw a man on the street who seemed to be talking to an invisible friend.' Another way is to look at pictures or listen to music. A picture of a desolate landscape might inspire 'The desert stretched out endlessly before him, a lonely figure in a sea of sand.'

Such a story is often referred to as a 'reverse chronology story'. It's a unique narrative approach where the events unfold backward from the end to the beginning.
