Lode, a successfull businessman who becomes overwhelmed by his purposeless life, decides to travel the world looking for answers to the great questions. At the last stop of his trip in the Sahara desert he's caught in a storm and loses his guide. He's stuck in an oasis where he meets a strange old man who claims to be the Messenger of God. As the embrace of sand slowly pulls Lode in the clutches of death the Messenger reveals to him some enlightening widosms. The Messenger then reveals to Lode that he will be sent in another world for some time, for a wisdom that in part even the Messenger ignores. He will be given a unique ability whose usage will entail a cost. Lode is born in the world of Alem as Leaf Akmar, son of the dean of the magic academy. He has no memory of his past life. The story is told by an adult Leaf who has been King of Alem for a millennia. The legendary King calls Chronicler to record his story in three days, as the army of a misterious rebel approached Abkar, the royal capital. Hence the King spoke: "Of all the enemies I had to face in the last millennia, and the storms of fire and ice I had to face, and the challenges I had to surpass, this is the biggest of them all. I will tell you of the life of King Leaf, and of the Great Millenia, in three days. I shall tell you of the King who is known as the Feathered One, the Kingslayer, the King of Dragons, I will tell you of the one whose name was once known as Lode, a name from another space and time...a name from another world."
