I heard about a patient who had been suffering from migraines. Regular medications didn't seem to work well. But when they were prescribed divalproex, the frequency and intensity of their migraines reduced. They no longer had to spend days in a dark room trying to relieve the pain. They could now engage in social activities and exercise, which they hadn't been able to do before due to the fear of migraines.
There was a case where a patient with bipolar disorder had very unstable moods. Once on divalproex, they noticed a great improvement. Their manic episodes became less intense and less frequent, and their depressive periods also shortened. This allowed them to maintain better relationships with their family and friends, and they could even return to work and be productive. The stability in their mood was a huge success for them on this medication.
