For the wolf character, you can focus on his physical strength and his loyalty. Maybe he has a code of honor that he follows strictly. You can show this by having him make difficult decisions based on his honor. For the fox, emphasize his intelligence and quick thinking. He could be the one who always comes up with the plans in their adventures. For example, when they are trapped in an enemy base, the fox figures out a way to escape by using the enemy's security system against them.
Give them unique personalities. The wolf could be a bit gruff on the outside but have a soft heart inside. He might not show his emotions easily. The fox, on the other hand, could be more talkative and friendly. In terms of skills, the wolf might be better at close - combat while the fox is better at long - range attacks or using technology. Show how they complement each other in different situations, like during a space battle where the wolf takes on the enemies up close while the fox provides cover from a distance.
Develop the wolf's backstory. Perhaps he was an outcast from his pack because he was different in some way. This could make him more complex and interesting. The fox could have a family that he is trying to protect, which gives him motivation. You can also show their growth through their relationship. As they interact more, the wolf could become more open - minded and the fox could become more confident in his abilities outside of just being smart.
