I would recommend 'Blacksad' as a chiaroscuro graphic novel. It has beautifully detailed art with a great use of light and dark. The anthropomorphic characters are set against a backdrop of mystery and intrigue, and the chiaroscuro really enhances the mood. Also, 'From Hell' by Alan Moore has some excellent chiaroscuro work. The dark and shadowy London streets are brought to life in a very atmospheric way, which is integral to the overall horror - mystery feel of the story.
One great chiaroscuro graphic novel is 'Sin City' by Frank Miller. The use of extreme light and dark is a hallmark of this series. It creates a gritty, noir - like world filled with seedy characters and dark alleys. Another is 'The Dark Knight Returns' also by Miller. The chiaroscuro in this work helps in bringing out the brooding nature of Batman and the dark, dystopian Gotham City.
