A really terrifying story could be the one where a person is being haunted by a vengeful spirit. This spirit follows them everywhere, causing strange things to happen around them. They might see the spirit in their dreams, and then start to see signs of it in their waking life too. Doors slam shut on their own, and they feel a cold breath on their neck, making them constantly on edge.

Well, there was this story where a man was going down the stairs in an abandoned building. As he descended, the steps seemed to become steeper and darker with each step. He heard what sounded like someone dragging a heavy chain behind him. When he finally reached the bottom, he saw a pair of glowing eyes in the corner. He ran out of there as fast as he could.
