What are the reasons someone might be bad at telling stories?

Perhaps some people with a very warped sense of morality might create such stories to shock others. They may be trying to break taboos for the sake of getting attention.

Some people might be understanding right away. They could respond with kindness and support, saying things like 'Thank you for telling me. I know it must have been hard.'

Miracles. The Bible is full of them, like Jesus turning water into wine. These go against the normal rules of nature, similar to what's in fantasy novels.

Peer influence can be a big factor. If a student hangs out with a group of kids who don't care about school, they are likely to follow suit. They might be more interested in having fun with their friends rather than studying. Also, family problems can contribute. For instance, if there are constant arguments at home, a student may not be able to focus on their studies and end up as a bad grad.

Maybe they are really into the story and the fear they're expressing through the story is so intense that it makes them cry. It could also be that they have some personal experience related to the scary elements in the story, and recalling it while telling makes them emotional.

Perhaps the ending didn't fulfill the promises made earlier in the novel. If you hinted at a big revelation or a major change throughout the story but didn't deliver on it in the ending, readers will be disappointed. Also, if the ending is overly complicated or convoluted, it can be off - putting.
