Li Chengqian was the eldest son of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin. He was born in 619 and was a minister of the imperial clan of the Tang Dynasty. His mother was Empress Wende. During the reign of Emperor Wude, as the grandson of the Emperor, he was conferred the title of Prince of Zhongshan. Li Chengqian was intelligent and kind-hearted, and was favored and valued by Taizong. After Emperor Taizong ascended the throne, he was appointed Crown Prince. However, Li Chengqian was suffering from leg problems and could not move. In order to protect Li Chengqian, Taizong made Li Zhi the Crown Prince. Li Chengqian was sentenced to exile to Qianzhou and finally died of depression in 645.
