San Yan Er Pai was a collection of short stories from the Ming Dynasty in China. It contained many works that reflected social reality and human weaknesses. Although the three characters and two beats have made some contributions to literature, they also have some shortcomings. For example, the characters in the works are usually simplified, the plot is usually linear, and the theme is usually single. It embodied some characteristics of ancient literature, such as the essence of democratic progress, the deep insight into human nature, the exposure of social reality, the desire for freedom and the concern for individual rights. However, it also contained the dregs of feudalism, such as the emphasis on family and social order, the respect for traditional culture, and the praise of male rights. Therefore, as a part of the ancient literary heritage, Sanyan Erpai has a certain value and significance, but we also need to discover and criticize it in order to better inherit and carry forward the ancient literary heritage.
