Her father was Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin, and her mother was Empress Wu Zetian of Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty, Li Zhi. After Princess Gao Yang was born, she was conferred the title of Princess of Qin State and was granted certain rights and status.
