Romance of the Three Kingdoms was based on the history of the Yellow Turban Uprising at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It narrated the wars and characters of Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Sun Quan, and others during the Three Kingdoms period. There were many stories of war and strategy, but some parts were fictional. In general, the four famous novels, Dream of the Red Chamber, Journey to the West, and Water Margins, were true stories, while Romance of the Three Kingdoms had some fictional plots.
