Prose and novel are both literary works but they have different writing forms and purposes. Prose is a free and casual literary form, usually expressing the author's thoughts and feelings in a lyrical, narrative, and discussion manner, emphasizing the lyricism and personality of literature. Prose was featured by beautiful, concise and fluent language, focusing on expressing the author's true feelings and emotional experience. A novel was a literary work with a complicated plot, many characters, and a strong narrative. It was usually based on a fictional story to express the author's thoughts and feelings by shaping the characters, describing the plot, and depicting the environment. The characteristics of the novel were the deep character image, the twists and turns of the plot, the vivid description of the environment, and the emphasis on shaping the character image and plot design. Therefore, although prose and novel are both literary works, there are big differences in writing form, purpose and literary value.
