Chapter 13: Chapter 13 : New problems
For a period of two and a half months, Jacob wandered everywhere, stopping in the state of Nevada where he ended up in Las Vegas. During the last month, Jacob was able to forget his sorrow but it was through debauchery.
He used his powers to win from time to time in casinos to finance his hectic life of sex and parties, he did not respond to any messages or calls from others in order to simply enjoy his freedom.
While one morning he was asleep among three completely naked women, Jacob was woken up by his phone which hadn't stopped vibrating for a while.
Looking at the ID he saw that it was Carlisle's sixteenth call attempt so after sighing he finally picked up.
Jacob: Carlisle? I thought I asked to be left alone.
Carlisle: Jacob, thank God you answered. We have a serious problem.
Jacob: What else?! Another crazy vampire wants to kill Bella?
Carlisle: No Jacob, Bella is pregnant and this pregnancy is killing her.
Jacob: I don't see why that's still my problem. Bella is a big girl who knew where she wanted to go without taking into account those close to her. And then how can this pregnancy be possible?
Carlisle: Jacob, you're better than that. We don't know how it happened but it did.
Jacob: And why call me?! What do you expect from me?
Carlisle: Sam declared war on us over this.
Jacob: (stands up) Tell me everything.
"Bella was already pregnant when she returned from her shortened wedding night with Edward and very quickly, the child grew in her belly but it exhausted Bella's body which visibly lost weight.
One day, Seth came by to drop off some blood as you assured us and accidentally saw Bella on the balcony. Certainly listening to the child's heart beating in his stomach, he knew what it was and left in his wolf form.
When we saw this, we panicked and tried to hold him and calm him down to explain everything to him but in the chase, Rosalie didn't control her strength and hurt him. I swear to you that we would never want to hurt Seth, I know that he likes us" Carlisle said.
Jacob: Continue…
"Distressed and injured, Seth howled to call the pack and we had to get out of there to avoid tragedy. Now Sam knows about Bella's child and with what happened to Seth, he's broken the truce. Jacob, it's been almost two weeks since we last fed because the wolves are roaming around the house and they could attack at any time. Please Jake, we need your help" He said pleadingly.
Jacob: Sam is smart and strategic so he starved you before deciding when to attack. I know them and trained them hard to kill vampires, even fed they will tear you to pieces.
Carlisle: Jacob, I'm not afraid to die for my family. Only, we are starving, I have a reserve of O- in my lab for work but I am afraid that hunger will make us lose our values if we touch human blood and I would still rather die than become a monster again.
Jacob: I'm going to get going (hangs up)
He got ready and got on his motorcycle before leaving. A little over two days later, the Cullens heard the sound of his motorcycle.
« Jacob, you're finally here.» Carlisle said with relief as Jacob handed him a cooler full of animal blood.
Esme: Jacob, it's nice to see you again. We don't know how to thank you.
Jacob: It's nothing. Looking at your eyes you must be really hungry and I doubt preserved blood will be enough for you, especially if it comes from an animal. You will need a live animal.
Carlisle: That's fair, but we can't hunt.
Jacob: One problem at a time, we'll solve this calmly but first, you should feed yourself.
"Hello Jacob..." Edward came over and said calmly.
Jacob: Hi, congratulations on your wedding. Where is she ?
Edward: Upstairs.
He didn't even bother to greet everyone else and went straight upstairs to find Bella completely skinny and even paler than before before a big belly.
"Jake…" she whispered weakly and he moved closer.
Jacob: It doesn't seem to be in great shape.
"I know…I'm glad you're here…I feel complete." She held out her hand weakly towards him and he looked at Edward who nodded weakly.
Jacob walked over to Bella and sat down next to her, taking her hand.
Jacob: You're dying Bella.
Bella: And I wish you were there for my child Jake.
He looked at the others with Edward looking like he was in pain before looking back at Bella.
"Sorry but I can't promise you that without trying to save you."
Edward: Jacob, if you have a solution...anything...I will do it.
Esme: We'll do whatever it takes.
Jacob: Let me examine the child inside first, I'll know what he might need.
Alice: Can you do that?!
He didn't answer her and directly transformed his eyes which in addition to their dark shape, there were now very fine veins under his eyes. He gently placed his hand on Bella's stomach and immediately, the child stirred inside and it made Bella suffer.
Edward: JACOB!
Bella: It's okay Edward.
Jacob: Problem solved. The child is a girl and if Bella is in this state it is because the baby is thirsty. I can see her sucking Bella's blood and resources away, she needs blood.
Bella: Blood?
Jacob: His father is a vampire, right? Why did the idea never occur to you? The child is the hungriest here and will not want animal blood.
Carlisle: I think I have what it takes.
Jacob: If it's human blood then the others must immediately go feed on what I brought if only to endure. I'll go look for something else.
Esme: Jacob, we don't know what to say.
Jacob: Enjoy your meal, I'll stay with Bella and Carlisle.
Edward: I'll stay too, thanks Jacob.
Carlisle came back with some human blood and made Bella taste it, after a few seconds she said it tasted nice so the solution was a success. Carlisle thanked Jacob who headed towards the door to leave.
Bella: Jacob, please stay.
Jacob: Your new family is starving Bella and their two new members are suffering the most. I'll come back quickly.
Edward: Can I help?
Jacob: Stay with her.
Jacob left for who knows where before returning an hour later with a cow on his right shoulder and a goat under his left armpit. The Cullens saw the animals and were grateful to Jacob once again.
Emmett: Dude, you save our lives.
Alice: Thank you very much Jacob.
Jasper: Yeah thanks.
Danielle looked at him and wanted to say something but he immediately went upstairs to find the others.
Carlisle: Jacob, I can smell the warm blood of the animals you brought. Thank you son.
Esme: Thanks Jacob. You have done us so much good.
Jacob: Go feed yourself, I'll stay with her.
Edward: I'd like to talk to you later Jake.
Jacob: No worries.
He stayed with Bella when Rosalie came to find them, she had finished feeding.
Rosalie: You saved our lives and you helped Bella…my family is grateful to you.
Jacob: It's nothing.
Rosalie: How is Seth?! Jacob I didn't want to hurt him...I SWEAR
Jacob: I don't know how he's doing and I've just arrived, I haven't made contact with my brothers or even my father.
Rosalie: I hope he doesn't blame me, Seth never failed in his task when you left.
Jacob: As I know him, that would surprise me. He's a golden boy. After all that, I think it would be good for you to invest in breeding to have a regular supply of animal blood without hunting and without outside help.
"That's a great idea" Esme said coming over with Carlisle. He got up to go out and find Edward outside.
Jacob: What did you want to talk to me about?
Edward: I keep telling myself that she would have been better off with you and you prove it to my family again and again. Jacob I-(interrupted)
Jacob: Shut up, shut up right now if you're going to say something like that to me. IT'S YOUR WIFE EDWARD! She is suffering without her husband's understanding! The baby in her stomach is not a monster and I saw it, it is your child.
Edward: You've read my mind but it's a fact, it's going to kill her Jacob...
Jacob: You and I will know if it happens. You don't have the right to give up until she's dead. No, but can you hear yourself speak? You surely come from a time when childbirth was more difficult, women could lose their lives but did that make their children monsters?
Edward: No...
Jacob: Go ahead...go apologize to her and fight together. That's marriage too…I guess…
"Thanks Jake...I was really terrible..." Edward said before leaving and stood there alone on the balcony for a while before Danielle came to him.
Danielle: Thanks for…dinner.
Jacob: How do you stand it?
Danielle: It's difficult but...Carlisle says Bree and I are doing well. Maybe it's because I've never drunk human blood before.
Jacob: That's good…
Danielle: Are you mad at me? I remember everything but...I...
Jacob: I don't blame you, things are as they are and that's all. You should go back to the others.
She lowered her head before leaving him as he wiped the tear that wanted to fall from his eye. He loved two girls and the vampires got them, he didn't want to think about it anymore and just went up to sit Alone on the roof of the residence.
