Chapter 8: 0̴̨̬͕͖͔̯͆͌0̵̡̩̹̾̓8̷̡̧͇͈̪̼̠̋̋͗

‘There’s no denying this, this child is an asset to the kingdom. I don’t understand how this is possible but all the revolutionary ideas she has proposed in this test are actually reasonable. This young child who hasn’t even taken her magic awakening test has just made solutions to issues that we didn’t even know existed, her impact on the medical field will save the lives of hundreds- no, thousands. I hate to admit it but this child has exceeded my expectations and it was my mistake for judging too early since I have prejudice against rich children,’ thought Edmond.

“I apologise for my behaviour, it was wrong of me to make disrespectful assumptions without having any evidence to support my views,” my tutor then bowed his head.

This is quite humorous, to be honest, I couldn’t help but let out a laugh causing him to look up.

“There is really no need to apologise to me as I am merely a child, your reaction and impressions of me are quite understandable. I am also in the wrong, please forgive my previous statement where I had cut you off from speaking, it was unbecoming of a daughter of a duke, please don’t take any rudeness I had expressed to heart. Since you are an adult there is no need to apologise to a young child, also I appreciate your expressions when we first met, it made me more determined to do well in the tests,” I voiced my true thoughts, he has gained my trust so there is no harm in me expressing my sincere thoughts.

To my amusement, a shocked expression adorned Sir Edmond’s face.

‘This child is mature beyond her age, other children at this age would still be playing with toys, having tantrums and wasting their parents’ time. The courage and maturity that she displays, even being able to lower herself in front of someone to apologise. To be able to admit one’s flaws, even adults right now don’t have the maturity for that but I do wonder if she still acts like a child sometimes, she should have fun and enjoy herself once in a while.’

“Hey, what do you enjoy doing? Don’t you want toys or something?”

“I don’t have anything that I enjoy doing aside from working towards my future goals. My thoughts on toys are that they are useless items that are not necessary for my survival so I see no need to desire such items that are targeted towards children in order for nobles to make more money. I also do not wish to support slavery as a by-product of purchasing toys as most manufacturers of toys enlist the labour of slaves who are caged by a contract. Nor do I want to burden my parents into having to provide me with unnecessary purchases that will cause me to become spoiled or ungrateful to the efforts of others. Apologies for my rambling.”

“There is no need to apologise, but I would like to ask, what is your goal?”

“I wish to help others, I want to show my gratitude to the people that allow me to live a life of comfort so I want them to smile too or at least make sure they can live with fewer burdens. Most nobles are ungrateful, they use violence to silence the complaints of those with a smaller voice, they do not understand that their status as a noble is only possible because of commoners. The rich would not exist if it weren’t for the poor.”

“I have high hopes for you, Corlissa Veronique. I trust that you have the power to truly make changes to this kingdom and I will support you to the best of my abilities. Now then, I will be reporting your abilities to the Duke, and enjoy your childhood while it lasts,” Sir Edmond then left the library with a smile.

“Duke Veronique, you are truly blessed with a gifted child,” Sir Edmond commented, causing a hearty laugh to escape from the Duke.

“So, what are the results?”

“I believe it will be easier for you to see the test results for yourself,” Edmond then handed the sheet of papers to the Duke.

“This should not yet be known to outsiders but I will make an exception since it is you, do you think she is suitable to attend a council meeting with the King?” Edmond’s immediate reaction was disbelief, taking a child into a council meeting but since it is Corlissa he rethinks his response.

“Though if this were any other child I would outright say no since this has never occurred before in history but I questioned her motives after she completed the tests and my opinion is that she is capable enough to attend a council meeting, in fact, I recommend that she does.”

“If you could inform me of her answers to your questions I would appreciate it,” Edmond sensed no harm in sharing the information thus he did, also causing the Duke to trust him more.

With a serious expression, the Duke asked, “Don’t you think she is adorable?”

“Uh-” Edmond thought back to their lesson and the expression that she made when she was explaining her future goals, he couldn’t deny that she is an extremely cute child who is also intelligent. He couldn’t help but to hope for a daughter like her, “I...have to agree with you, Duke Veronique, she is certainly adorable.”

The Duke then began to ramble on and on fawning over his daughter but they went back on track a while later.

“Anyways, which days are you available to tutor my daughter?”

“I am able to come to your manor on Saturday and Sunday to tutor your child, but I am unsure whether I have anything to teach her.”

“Oh, that’s fine. You can just keep her company or something she will probably get quite bored since she has expressed her animosity towards what she states are ‘boring, useless, factually incorrect gossip that provides nothing to the kingdom and is merely a pass time for noble ladies to accompany their tea while wearing dresses adorned with unnecessary decorations for so-called aesthetics to which they have no self-awareness that they look like absolute clowns with caked-on makeup’, so I think she would prefer if you gave her documents about what is going on in the kingdom right now.”
