Chapter 14: New Start

Jin and Seo-yeon were silent the drive home. Words would make it harder, and both felt they were not necessary. Hands still clasped, they enjoyed the simplicity of that moment. They pulled up to the front of her family store. Seo-yeon faced Jin, and smiled. He returned the smile, and kissed her knuckles. It was a small gesture, but held so much meaning. He watched her leave the car, and enter the small store. Fighting the urge to run after her, he drove away.

***Two Weeks Later***

"How'd the interview go, Unni?" Hye asked Seo-yeon as she walked into Park's Goods. She sat exhausted from the heat. This was the second interview of the week, and the frustration was beginning to sink in. She had promised herself that she would help provide for her mother, and began job hunting. It pained her to shut down Captured Memories, but the lack of customers, and supply cost were enough reason. Of course, her mother tried to talk her out of it. There was no going back. She wrapped up her last scheduled appointments, then closed the business. The first week was difficult. She refused to admit that Jin had anything to do with her dejected attitude.

He had left, only leaving an email as a good-bye. She hated that she had hoped he'd stop by and say good bye in person. She knew it was selfish to expect that, so she accepted the email as their offical parting.

"I think it went well. They loved my portfolio, and they were really interested in the shots I did for inspiring idols."

"Will you really move if they call?" This from Kang Dae who was temporarily working part time. Seo-yeon had called and asked Professor Kim for the favor of hiring him as an assistant. Fortunately, he had agreed, stating that a position was available the next semester. Mom agreed to temporarily hire Kang Dae until then.

"Of course. It'd be too much to drive back and forth into the city. I'll still come on weekends though."

"Where would you stay?" Mom asked.

"I looked into some places, but there's no point in making plans for something that hasn't happened yet."

"It won't be the same without you here." Hye pouted. Seo-yeon laughed at him. He was twenty-four years old, but she could only see a toddler.

"Yeah, right! More like you have no one to pick on!"

"How else am I to pass the time?" They continued back and forth banter as customers continued their purchases. Seo-yeon didn't want to leave either, but she was determine to better her career and financially assist her mother. The sound of her phone buzzing drew her attention away from her own thoughts.

She stepped out of the store, heading upstairs to her room. She answered the phone when she was alone in her bedroom.

"Hello?"

"Good evening, can I speak with Park Seo-yeon?" The caller requested.

"This is she."

"Hello, Ms. Park, this is Kwak Jin Ae from K Star Magazine. You interviewed earlier this week for a photographer position."

"Yes"

"We were really impressed with your photo samples, and loved your professionalism. If you're still interested, we would like to invite you to become part of our team."

"Yes, yes! Thank you so much!" Seo-yeon was beyond thrilled. She never imagined working for an entertainment magazine, but she was up for the challenge. She came across the position when interviewing for a newspaper company. K Star had been open for about five years, so it was still growing. From the interview, they were extending into online sources, which was why they were looking for a second photographer. Someone with computer skills, and years of experience. Owning her own business worked to her advantage.

"Great! You will be working under myself, and our lead photographer Choi Ae-Cha. We will go over the position in further detail when you have arrived. Stop by HR Tuesday at seven A.M. then make your way to the fourth floor. I look forward to seeing you."

"Thank you again." Seo-yeon sat on her bed, clutching her phone. So many things were going through her mind. Finding a place to live. Waking up early next week to avoid traffic. 'You got this, Seo. Great things are to come. First things first, tell Mom.'
